1. On New Implants - The results of five prospective, randomized RSA trials with aspects on phased introduction and continuous migration
Abstract : A concern that arises with any change in design or operative technique is whether it affects the long-term implant stability or not. One way to address this is, by measuring early micromotion, to predict the future revision rate. READ MORE

2. Neuroprotection and neurogenesis after experimental stroke
Abstract : In this thesis, two potential endogenous mechanisms for neuronal survival and repair have been investigated in a rat model of stroke, middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO): signaling of the GDNF family of neurotrophic factors, and neurogenesis from endogenous progenitor cells. As determined by in situ hybridization for GDNF family ligand and receptor genes, MCAO caused widespread upregulation of both components of the functional GDNF receptor, c-Ret and GFRalpha1, indicating that GDNF may be a survival signal in stroke. 3. Image Processing Architectures for Binary Morphology and Labeling
Abstract : Conventional surveillance systems are omnipresent and most are still based on analog techniques. Migrating to the digital domain grants access to the world of digital image processing enabling automation of such systems, which means extracting information from the image stream without human interaction. 4. Dynamic Cloud Resource Management : Scheduling, Migration and Server Disaggregation
Abstract : A key aspect of cloud computing is the promise of infinite, scalable resources, and that cloud services should scale up and down on demand. This thesis investigates methods for dynamic resource allocation and management of services in cloud datacenters, introducing new approaches as well as improvements to established technologies. 5. The Outsourcing PRocess - Strategic and operational realities
Abstract : The combination of shorter product life cycles, increased product complexity, and resource !imitations in conjunction with the globalization of the economy puts immense pressure on corporations to become more efficient, or leaner, in their operations (Alexander 1985, Sanchez 1997, Harryson 1998). One way of managing such competitive pressures has been tooutsource certain acrivities and focus internally on what has popularly been termed core competenciq thus enabling expansion and growth without having to carry the entire financial burden This is especially true for the increasing number of firms that have assumed (whether by choice or as an imperative) the systems integrator role, which implies migrating upwards in the value chain.
