  1. 1. Numerical computations of wind turbine wakes and wake interaction Optimization and control

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Karl Nilsson; Dan Henningson; Stefan Ivanell; Martin O. L. Hansen; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Actuator disc method; Actuator line method; Blade element momentum method; Wind turbine wake; Wake interaction; CFD; LES; EllipSys3D;

    Abstract : In the present thesis the wake flow behind wind turbines is analyzed numerically using large-eddy simulations. The wind turbine rotors are modeled by using either the actuator disc method or the actuator line method in which the blades are represented by body forces computed with airfoil data. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Study of Factors Affecting the Particle Size for Water Atomised Metal Powders

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Fredrik Persson; Pär Jönsson; Anders Eliasson; Ioannis Arvanitidis; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; water atomisation; metal powders; particle size; modelling; viscosity; surface tension;

    Abstract : The production of metal powders by water atomisation is a well established process, which can be used to produce a wide range of particle sizes. A careful control of the particle size distribution is necessary, to atomise powders with a high quality and at a low production cost. READ MORE

  3. 3. Preparation of Pharmaceutical Powders using Supercritical Fluid Technology Pharmaceutical Applications and Physicochemical Characterisation of Powders

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Sitaram P. Velaga; Johan Carlfors; Kristiina Järvinen; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; Supercritical fluid; Gas Anti-Solvent; SEDS; Crystallisation; Particle design; Polymorphs; Dry powder inhalation; Solid-state behaviour; Therapeutic proteins; Precipitation; Stability; Recombinant human growth hormone hGH ; Galenisk farmaci; PHARMACY Pharmaceutics; FARMACI Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The main aim of the thesis was to explore the potential of supercritical fluid (SF) techniques in the field of drug delivery. In particular, the relatively recently developed solution-enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS) technology has been employed in the preparation of particles/powders. READ MORE

  4. 4. Colloidal suspensions of mesostructured silica

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Andreas Berggren; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; formation mechanism; non-ionic surfactants; silica; inorganic silica; colloidal suspension; control of particle size;

    Abstract : Mesoporous silica is a porous material with walls made of silica and pores in the size range of 2-50 nm. Since the silica most often is amorphous, the material lacks short range order but the pores may be arranged in different structures generating a long-range order. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aerosol Particle Sources Affecting the Swedish Air Quality at Urban and Rural Level

    University dissertation from Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Adam Kristensson; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wood combustion; traffic; long distance transport; nucleation; urban; background; PM2.5; PM10; source contribution; PIXE; Physics; Environmental technology; Fysik; pollution control; emissions; Aerosol particle; sources; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; size distribution; Fysicumarkivet A 2005:Kristensson;

    Abstract : During the last decades anthropogenic aerosol particles have attracted much attention due to their adverse health effects and their influence of climate change, and in Sweden, there are mainly three aerosol sources that affect the air quality; domestic wood combustion, traffic, and long distance transport, which includes new particle formation. This work concerns the characterization of these sources and an estimate of how much they contribute to the aerosol particle number (ToN) and mass concentrations (PM) in Swedish cities and at background locations.
