  1. 41. Developmental Control of Cell Division in Streptomyces coelicolor

    Author : Nina Grantcharova; Klas Flärdh; Gerhart Wagner; Yves Brun; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; FtsZ; cell division; Streptomyces; GFP; bacterial development; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : Cell division in the Gram-positive bacterium Streptomyces coelicolor starts with the assembly of the tubulin homologue FtsZ into a cytokinetic ring (the Z ring) at the site of septation. In stark contrast to the binary fission of most bacteria, the syncytial hyphal cells of S. READ MORE

  2. 42. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications

    Author : Johan Rydberg; Lars Baltzer; Joel Schneider; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Protein interactions; design; catalysis; biosensors; hybride materials; nanoparticles; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function. 3. 43. Transcription factor control in neuronal maintenance and survival

    Author : Banafsheh Kadkhodaei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Transcription factor (TF) Nurr1 is essential for the development of a group of dopamine neurons that are located in the ventral midbrain (also referred to as mesencephalon). A progressive pathology of these midbrain dopamine (mDA) neurons is evident in Parkinson s disease, the most frequent neurodegenerative movement disorder. READ MORE

  4. 44. Comparative analysis of pathogen occurrence in wastewater : management strategies for barrier function and microbial control

    Author : Jakob Ottoson; Bengt Hultman; Roland Schertenleib; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bacteria; parasites; treatment; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : This project was initiated to fill knowledge gaps on the occurrence of pathogens in different streams of wastewater, e.g. greywater and domestic wastewater. READ MORE

  5. 45. Swedish operating room nurses preventive interventions to reduce bacterial growth, surgical site infections, and increase comfort in patients undergoing surgery

    Author : Camilla Wistrand; Ulrica Nilsson; Bo Söderquist; Karin Falk-Brynhildsen; Tor Monsen; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; skin disinfection; patient experience; skin temperature; intra-operative; surgical site infection; bacterial growth; recolonization;

    Abstract : Surgical site infection is a major postoperative complication that causes patient suffering and is costly for society. The general aim of this thesis was to test and describe interventions performed by operating room (OR) nurses to prevent bacterial growth in surgical patients, with the intent to prevent surgical site infections (SSIs) whilst increase patients comfort.
