16. Essays on Field Experiments and Impact Evaluation
Abstract : Paper 1: Improving Welfare Through Climate-Friendly Agriculture: The Case of the System of Rice Intensification We use rich survey data to investigate the economic impact of a climate-friendly rice farming method known as the system of rice intensification (SRI) on the welfare of rain-dependent small-holder farmers in Tanzania. SRI reduces water consumption by half, which makes it a promising farming system in the adaptation to climate change in moisture constrained areas, and it does not require flooding of rice fields, resulting in reduced methane emissions. 17. Electrochromism and over-oxidation in conjugated polymers: Improved color switching and a novel patterning approach
Abstract : During the last 30 years a new research and technology field of organic electronic materials has grown thanks to a groundbreaking discovery made during the late 70’s. This new field is today a worldwide research effort focusing on exploring this new class of materials that also enable many new areas of electronics applications. READ MORE

18. On Gate Drivers for MOS-Controlled Power Devices and dv-dt Filters for Train Traction Converters
Abstract : In this thesis, low-loss gate-drive solutions and a proposed dv/dt-filter have been investigated with focus on train traction converters with dv/dt constraints.By using the silicon carbide (SiC) junction field-effect transistor (JFET), the switching losses can be significantly reduced compared to the commonly used insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), but complex gate-driver solutions are required for high utilization in terms of loss reduction. 19. Saving Energy in Construction Machinery using Displacement Control Hydraulics : Concept Realization and Validation
Abstract : In the sector of mobile hydraulics, valve controlled systems are predominant. In these systems the load force and speed are adjusted by control valves. In machines where multiple drives are used in parallel at extremely varying loads the energy efficiency of such systems is often compromised over large working regions. READ MORE

20. Polyelectrolyte Brush Electrodes for Protein Capture and Release
Abstract : Stimuli-responsive polyelectrolyte brushes switch as a function of pH between a charged and neutral state that affects their electrostatic interactions with other charged molecules like proteins. Adjustment of the pH results in the binding of large quantities of proteins making polyelectrolyte brushes widely used as biointerfaces. READ MORE
