  1. 16. Fibre Orientation Modelling Applied to Contracting Flows Related to Papermaking

    Author : Marko Hyensjö; Anders Dahlkild; Markku Kataja; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fokker-Planck; fibre orientation; shear flow; fibre suspension; planar contraction; headbox; turbulent flow; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The main goal of this work was to develop numerical models for studying the behaviour of fibres in an accelerated flow. This is of special interest for e.g. papermaking. READ MORE

  2. 17. Local structure and composition : in additively manufactured bulk metallic glasses and composites

    Author : Inga Katharina Goetz; Jochen M. Schneider; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Maria Teresa Pérez Prado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; additive manufacturing; bulk metallic glasses; nanoscale clustering; convective flow; laser nitriding; laser powder bed fusion; metallic glass - ceramic composites; oxygen impurities; mechanical properties; magnetic properties; viscosity; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex multi-material geometries and bulk metallic glass parts beyond their critical casting thickness. The local modification of structure, composition, and properties is explored in this thesis with the aim to design novel composite materials and functional gradients. READ MORE

  3. 18. Numerical Study of Laminar, Transitional and Turbulent Flow Past Rectangular Cylinders

    Author : Ahmad Sohankar Esfahani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; blockage; outlet boundary condition; rectangular cylinders; onset of vortex shedding; angle of incidence; incompressible flow; LES; DNS; transition; finite volumes; Reynolds number; numerical simulation; square cylinder;

    Abstract : The subject of flow past slender bluff bodies is of relevance to technical problems associated with energy conservation, structural design and acoustic emissions. The present work is restricted to an important sub-class of slender bluff body flow --- the incompressible flow around a stationary cylinder having a rectangular cross section, the cylinder being exposed to a constant free stream velocity. 4. 19. Transitional flow in ordered porous media

    Author : Tobias Forslund; Staffan Lundström; Sofia Larsson; Gunnar Hellström; Krishna Pillai; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Porous media; Lattice Boltzmann Method; GPU Programming; Tomographic PIV; Laser Doppler Velocimetry; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Porous media, here defined as any permeable structure allowing a fluid to flow through, are relevant to a multitude of engineering applications and natural processes. The observed macroscopic properties of the porous media such as mixing, heat transfer and apparent permeability are properties which are affected by the flow and especially the type of flow, or flow region. 5. 20. Flow over rough surfaces, and conjugate heat transfer, in engineering applications

    Author : Bercelay Niebles Atencio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Naphthalene Sublimation Tecnhique; Antifouling paint; convective heat transfer; Roughness Function; correlation; CFD; RANS; stator channel; electric generator; Impinging Jet; Skin-Friction Drag; Rotating Disk; Ship Hull;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on two important topics in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer that were treated separately. On the one hand, the flow over rough surfaces, which is not yet completely understood, despite of the fact that it has an important implication in many engineering applications, especially in the naval industry for ships and boats because the friction drag caused by fouling, antifouling coatings and roughness in general impacts the fuel consumption and toxic emissions to the atmosphere.
