  1. 1. Pro- and anticoagulant activities of factor V

    Author : Elisabeth Thorelli; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; activated protein C; protein S; factor VIII; factor V; procoagulant; anticoagulant; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : Coagulation factor V (FV) is activated by thrombin through proteolytic cleavage at Arg-709, Arg-1018 and Arg-1545. Upon thrombin activation, the active form of factor V (FVa) is formed. FVa functions as a cofactor to factor Xa in the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin during coagulation. READ MORE

  2. 2. The hematopoietic transcription factor RUNX1 : a structural view

    Author : Stefan Bäckström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; RUNX1; Runt domain; CBFβ; transcription factor; leukaemia; protein crystallography; anomalous diffraction; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The malfunction of the transcriptional regulator RUNX1 is the major cause of several variants of acute human leukemias and its normal function is to regulate the development of the blood system in concert with other transcriptional co-regulators. RUNX1 belongs to a conserved family of heterodimeric transcription factors that share a conserved DNA binding domain, the Runt domain (RD), named after the first member of this group – Runt - found in Drosophila melanogaster. 3. 3. Biochemical conversion of biomass : hydrothermal pretreatment, by-product formation, conditioning, enzymatic saccharification, and fermentability

    Author : Dimitrios Ilanidis; Leif J. Jönsson; Carlos Martin; Björn Alriksson; Eulogio Castro; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lignocellulosic biomass; hydrothermal pretreatment; enzymatic digestibility; ethanolic fermentation; microbial inhibitors; conditioning;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic residues have great potential as feedstocks for production of bio-based chemicals and fuels. One of the main routes is biochemical conversion, which typically includes pretreatment, enzymatic saccharification, microbial fermentation of sugars, and valorization of hydrolysis lignin. 4. 4. Hydro-Kinetic Energy Conversion : Resource and Technology

    Author : Mårten Grabbe; Mats Leijon; Cameron Johnstone; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tidal energy; renewable energy; vertical axis turbine; permanent magnet generator; resource assessment; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : The kinetic energy present in tidal currents and other water courses has long been appreciated as a vast resource of renewable energy. The work presented in this doctoral thesis is devoted to both the characteristics of the hydro-kinetic resource and the technology for energy conversion. READ MORE
