    Abstract : If n points are independently and uniformly distributed in a large rectangular parallelepiped, A in Rd, d =2,3, they may possibly aggregate in such a way that they are contained in some translate of a given convex set C in A. If the points are replaced by copies of C, these translated sets may have a non-empty intersection. READ MORE

  4. 4. Non-overlapping Germ-grain Models: Characteristics and Material Modelling

    Author : Jenny Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Poisson process; Convex sets; Material fatigue; Voronoi tessellation; Germ-grain process; Pair-correlation function; Mark-correlation function; Short cracks; Volume fraction; Germ-grain process;

    Abstract : We consider three different non--overlapping germ--grain models, two of which are constructed in a similar fashion. These two models are generalisations of Mat\'ern's hard--core models. In both cases we start with a homogeneous Poisson process and use the points as centres of convex sets, grains, of the same shape. READ MORE

  5. 5. Performing Punk : Subcultural Authentications and the Positioning of the Mainstream

    Author : Erik Hannerz; Tora Holmberg; Philip Lalander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; subculture; punk; mainstream; authentication; style; identity; cultural sociology; ethnography; convex; concave; patterns of meaning; Sociologi; Sociology;

    Abstract : This thesis is about how and in opposition to what punk is defined and lived out by punks in Sweden and Indonesia. Arguing against the previous research’s presumption that subcultural meaning constitutes a single set of meaning, this study points to two patterned sets of meanings, each constructed out of several different definitions of the mainstream as well as the subcultural authentic.
