  1. 1. Engine Encapsulation for Increased Fuel Efficiency of Road Vehicles

    Author : Blago Minovski; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; coupled simulations; powertain cooling systems; warm-up; 1D simulations; thermal engine encapsulation; cool-down; fuel consumption; numerical analysis; 3D CFD simulations;

    Abstract : Thermal engine encapsulation is an increasingly popular design choice, which insulates the engine from the external environment and retains heat in the engine after it is turned off. This decelerates motor cool-down and increases the probability for high initial temperature at a subsequent engine start, resulting in shorter warm-up and reduced friction between engine parts. 2. 2. Steam Turbine Optimisation for Solar Thermal Power Plant Operation

    Author : James Spelling; Andrew Martin; Magnus Genrup; KTH; []
    Keywords : solar thermal power; steam-turbine; start-up; cool-down; dispatchability increase; koncentrerad solenergi; ångturbin; uppstart; nedkylning; ökad flexibilitet;

    Abstract : The provision of a sustainable energy supply is one of the most important issues facing humanity at the current time, given the strong dependence of social and economic prosperity on the availability of affordable energy and the growing environmental concerns about its production. Solar thermal power has established itself as a viable source of renewable power, capable of generating electricity at some of the most economically attractive rates. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time dependent processes incavity QED

    Author : Jonas Larson; KTH; []
    Keywords : cavity QED; state preparation; non-classical; Jaynes-Cummings model; Fock state; measurement;

    Abstract : Cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) has become one of themost successful tools for quantum information processing, butalso for the study of other pure quantum effects. In thisthesis we investigate one such system, the micromaser; an atomtraverse a cavity and interacts with the quantized modes of thecavity field. READ MORE

  4. 4. Coupled Simulations of Cooling and Engine Systems for Unsteady Analysis of the Benefits of Thermal Engine Encapsulation

    Author : Blago Minovski; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Oil system; Cooling system; Drive cycle; CFD simulations; Fuel consumption; Engine encapsulation; 1D simulations;

    Abstract : A well-designed engine encapsulation can extend engine cool-down time significantly - on the order of 500 - 700%. This is expected to have a sensitive influence on the fuel consumption due to the increased probability for high oil temperatures at the following engine start, reduced length of the initial warm-up period and consequently, reduced friction losses. 5. 5. On the thermal inertia and time constant of single-family houses

    Author : Johan Hedbrant; Björn Karlsson; Mats Söderström; Stig-Inge Gustafsson; Karin Adalberth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Electric heating;

    Abstract : Since the nineteen-seventies, electricity has become a common heating source in Swedish single-family houses. About one million smallhouses can use electricity for heating, about 600.000 have electricity as the only heating source. READ MORE
