11. Monocrystalline-Silicon Based RF MEMS Devices
Abstract : This thesis presents novel radio-frequency microelectromechanical (RF MEMS) devices, for microwave and millimeter wave applications, designed for process robustness and operational reliability using monocrystalline silicon as structural material. Two families of RF MEMS devices are proposed. READ MORE

12. On-chip terahertz characterisation of liquids
Abstract : Spectroscopy at terahertz frequencies can be used in a wide range of applications including radio-astronomy, pharmaceutical manufacturing control, and the study of processes in molecular biology. Biomolecular samples should preferably be studied in their native environment, water, however, water poses extreme attenuation for THz-frequency waves, deteriorating or even impeding analysis using these waves. 13. Integrated Lumped Element and Ferroelectrically Tunable Microwave Components
Abstract : This thesis treats the development of passive circuits for increased integrationlevel in microwave front-ends. The subject is approached from twodifferent directions. On the one hand, emerging materials for microwaveintegrated circuits are studied. On the other hand, novel circuit topologiesare synthesized. READ MORE

14. Novel RF MEMS Devices Enabled by Three-Dimensional Micromachining
Abstract : This thesis presents novel radio frequency microelectromechanical (RF MEMS) circuits based on the three-dimensional (3-D) micromachined coplanar transmission lines whose geometry is re-configured by integrated microelectromechanical actuators. Two types of novel RF MEMS devices are proposed. READ MORE

15. Electron Tunneling and Field-Effect Devices in mm-Wave Circuits
Abstract : Short high-frequency electromagnetic pulses, also referred to as wavelets, are considered for use in various short-range impulse based ultra-wideband applications, such as communication, imaging, radar, spectroscopy, and localization. This thesis investigates field-effect and tunneling based semiconductor devices and their operation in millimeter-wave (mm-wave) impulse transceivers. READ MORE
