1. Phase transformation and surface chemistry of secondary iron minerals formed from acid mine drainage
Abstract : The mining of sulphidic ore to extract metals such as zinc and copper produces huge quantities of waste material. The weathering and oxidation of the waste produces what is commonly known as Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), a dilute sulphuric acid rich in Fe(II) and heavy metals. READ MORE

2. Atomic layer epitaxy of copper
Abstract : The high electric and thermal conductivity of copper has made it to a prime candidate as interconnect material in future integrated circuits. In this thesis, Atomic Layer Epitaxy has been used to deposit thin copper films on a variety of substrates, using both CuCl and Cu(II)2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate, Cu(thd)2, as precursors and hydrogen as reducing agent. 3. Redox reactions and structure - properties relations in mixed alkali/alkaline earth glasses : The role of antimony oxides during the fining process- A structural study of copper(I) and copper(II)
Abstract : It is important to optimize glass compositions for their specific purpose but also for the efficiency of the production process, the manufacturing of glass. This will be beneficial economically and environmentally. READ MORE

4. Molecular studies of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper : Exploration of ultra-sensitive techniques for the inhibiting effect of self assembled monolayers, and the effect of gamma radiation
Abstract : Atmospheric corrosion indoors is of great practical importance for the degradation of metals, for example in electronics, military equipment, and cultural heritage items. It involves a wide range of chemical, electrochemical, and physical processes occurring in gas, liquid, and solid phases, and at the interfaces between them. READ MORE

5. Pheromonal Mediated Behaviour and Endocrine Responses in Salmonids : The impact of Cypermethrin, Copper, and Glyphosate
Abstract : The effects of cypermethrin, copper and glyphosate on the endocrine system and subsequent response to female pheromones were investigated in mature male brown trout (Salmo trutta) parr. Responses measured were the amount of strippable milt, blood plasma levels of both an androgen (11-ketotestosterone (11-KT)) and a progestin (17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20b-P)), and behavioural changes.
