  1. 1. On Inter-bar Currents in Induction Motors with Cast Aluminium and Cast Copper Rotors

    Author : Alexander Stening; Chandur Sadarangani; Ola Aglén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Induction motors; Inter-bar currents; Copper rotors; Aluminium rotors; Starting torque; Asynchronous torques; Starting current; Stray losses; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of the effects of inter-bar currents on inductionmotor starting performance and stray-load losses. The work is focused on theperformance differences between aluminium and copper casted rotors.A method to predict the stator current when starting direct-on-line isdeveloped. READ MORE

  2. 2. Analysis and Reduction of Parasitic Effects in Induction Motors With Die-Cast Rotors

    Author : Alexander Stening; Chandur Sadarangani; Nicola Bianchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aluminium rotors; asynchronous torques; copper rotors; die-cast rotors; induction machines; inter-bar currents; modulated rotors; starting torque; stray losses; synchronous torques;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of inter-bar current effects on induction motors with die-cast aluminium and die-cast copper rotors. The parasitic effects introduced by these currents are analyzed and possible solutions to these problems are presented. This is realized by developing analytical tools for the simulation of inter-bar current effects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Efficient Density-Functional-Based Calculational Methods for Surfaces

    Author : Lennart Bengtsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; potential energy surfaces; pseudopotentials; surface physics; density functional theory; optimization techniques; computer simulations;

    Abstract : During the last decades, computer simulations have become an important tool for the study of elementary surface processes, such as atomic and molecular adsorption, diffusion of ad-atoms and surface recombination. The knowledge gained by such studies can be used to understand and develop technologically important processes such as catalysis and crystal growth. READ MORE

  4. 4. Design, Modelling and Control of Electrical Machines - With Applications to Iron-powder Machines and Acoustic Noise

    Author : David Martinez; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; BEM; induction machine; noise prediction; vector control; acoustic noise; HEV; series magnetization; leakage reduction; thermal model; FEM; MEC; claw-poles; SMC; slip-ring-less machine; sound intensity measurements; vibration; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts, the first dealing with the design of iron-powder synchronous machines, and the second with the analysis and prediction of the acoustic noise in electrical machines. In Part I, a 1.6 kW electrically magnetized claw-pole machine with magnetically conducting end-plates has been analyzed and a prototype tested. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synchronous Machines with High-Frequency Brushless Excitation for Vehicle Applications

    Author : Junfei Tang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrically Excited Synchronous Machines; Machine Modeling; Brushless Excitation; Machine Control; Machine Design; Electric Vehicles;

    Abstract : Electrically excited synchronous machines (EESM) are becoming an alternative to permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) in electric vehicle (EV) applications. This mainly attributes to the zero usage of rare-earth material as well as the capabilities of high starting torque and good field weakening provided by EESM. READ MORE
