  1. 1. HIV-1 envelope protein gp120. Glycovirology of the V3 loop

    Author : Britt Losman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AIDS; HIV-1; Carbohydrates; V3-region; V1-region; Coreceptors;

    Abstract : The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection usually is lethal as a consequence of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV-1 is an enveloped virus and the trimeric envelope glycoprotein complex, gp120/gp41, is responsible for binding of the virus both to the primary cellular receptor CD4 and the coreceptors, CXCR4 and CCR5. 2. 2. Dynamics of HIV coreceptors and their utilization by plasma and cerebrospinal fluid HIV-1 isolates

    Author : Ulf Karlsson; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : HIV-1 infection of CD4+ immune cells requires the assistance of cellular coreceptors. The regulation of these receptors is highly dynamic. In addition to the major coreceptors, CCR5 and CXCR4, several alternative coreceptors mediate entry for selected HIV isolates in vitro, although their role in vivo is yet to be established. 3. 3. HIV-1 variability in relation to host defence mechanisms and disease outcome

    Author : Marianne Jansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HIV-1; peptides; seroreactivity; genetic variability; pediatric; disease outcome; biological phenotypes; B-chemokines; coreceptors; V3; V2.;

    Abstract : Genetic variability is a major characteristic of HIV-1. Virus variants evolve rapidly, not only globally, but also within single individuals as a result of an error-prone reverse transcriptase, a rapid virus population turnover and selective pressure from the host. READ MORE

  4. 4. Virus tropism and neutralization response in SIV infection

    Author : Anna Laurén; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; HIV; SIV; mode of CCR5 use; CD4-independence; macrophage tropism; coreceptor use; neutralization; evolution; pathogenesis;

    Abstract : Simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infections in macaques are commonly used as models to study the pathogenesis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Both SIV and HIV normally use the CD4 receptor and an additional coreceptor for cell entry. The most common coreceptors used by HIV are CCR5 and CXCR4. READ MORE

  5. 5. Coreceptor usage and sensitivity to neutralization of HIV-1 and HIV-2

    Author : Yu Shi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HIV-1; HIV-2; pathogenesis; neutralization; coreceptor usage; envelop sequence; glycosylation; U87.CD4 cells; GHOST 3 cells; CCR5; CXCR4;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to study neutralization and coreceptor use in HIV-1 and HIV-2. The first step was to develop a simple and standardized assay for detection and quantification of HIV- 1 neutralizing activity in human sera. READ MORE
