  1. 1. Modulation of nuclear receptor activity by a unique class of corepressors

    Author : Elin Holter; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nuclear receptors; corepressors; transcription; intracellular localization.;

    Abstract : Nuclear receptors comprise a unique family of transcription factors that are crucial regulators of gene expression involved in diverse physiological and developmental processes. The nuclear receptor field has undergone a very rapid development during the recent two decades due to the recognition of the importance of nuclear receptors as intracellular signal transmitters and pharmaceutical targets. 2. 2. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis

    Author : Emad Barsoum; Åström Stefan; Laura Rusche; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mating type switch; transcriptional silencing; alpha3; transposase; Ume6; Mts1; Ras; cAMP; K. lactis; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on the atypical orphan receptor SHP

    Author : Lotta Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Nuclear receptors (NRs) comprise the largest family of transcription factors in eukaryotes and play critical roles in nearly every aspect of vertebrate development and adult physiology. In general, they function as transcriptional regulators that when bound to DNA either activate or suppress target gene expression. READ MORE

  4. 4. STAT5 expression and regulation in mammary epithelial cells

    Author : Hanne Olsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : STAT5; JAK2; PPAR-gamma; ER; MAPK; mammary epithelial cell differentiation;

    Abstract : The mammary gland of an adult mammal undergoes cycles of proliferation and differentiation influenced by growth factors, peptide, and steroid hormones, e.g. epidermal growth factor (EGF), prolactin (PRL) and estrogen (E). READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of transcriptional repression in Shh signalling and patterning of the ventral neural tube

    Author : Madelen Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : From flies to humans, members of the Hedgehog (Hh) family of secreted signalling molecules play a vital role in determining cell fate and patterning during embryonic development. In vertebrates, Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) act in a graded manner to establish distinct neural progenitor populations at different concentration thresholds in the ventral neural tube. READ MORE
