  1. 1. On-line vectorcardiography during coronary angioplasty and unstable coronary artery disease

    Author : Jens Jensen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : vectorcardiography; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; percutaneous coronary angioplasty; prognosis; gender; tissue Doppler echocardiography;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the usefulness of continuous vectorcardiography (VCG) in patients undergoing elective coronary angioplasty and in patients with unstable coronary artery disease (CAD), for detection and quantitation of myocardial ischemia and for identification of patients at risk of coronary events. The aims were to investigate, whether continuous on-line VCG: 1. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease

    Author : Frederick Bukachi; Anders Waldenstrom; Derek Gibson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler Tissue Imaging; Ageing; coronary disease; left ventricular function; atrial contraction; electromechanical function; coronary angioplasty.; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD. 3. 3. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers

    Author : Markus Lingman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; hypertension; diabetes; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; electrocardiography; vectorcardiography; arrhythmia; sudden death; electrophysiology;

    Abstract : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. READ MORE

  4. 4. Coronary artery disease and prognosis in relation to cardiovascular risk factors, interventional techniques and systemic atherosclerosis

    Author : Fredrik Calais; Ole Fröbert; Jerzy Leppert; Bo Lagerqvist; Stefan K James; Douwe E. Atsma; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atherosclerosis; Myocardial infarction; Coronary artery disease; Extra-cardiac artery disease; Coronary stent; Thrombus aspiration; physical inactivity; Prognosis;

    Abstract : Aim: To evaluate the prognosis associated with location and severity of coronary and systemic atherosclerosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) in relation to risk factors and interventional techniques.Methods: The thesis comprised six longitudinal studies based on three patient cohorts: The Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry, the Västmanland Myocardial Infarction Survey, and the Thrombus Aspiration in ST-Elevation myocardial infarction in Scandinavia study, to evaluate clinical outcome relative to coronary lesion location and severity, extracoronary artery disease (ECAD), intervention techniques, and leisuretime physical inactivity (LTPI). 5. 5. Neuropsychological Function After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

    Author : Cecilia Dautovic Bergh; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurology; coronary artery bypass surgery; S100B; neuropsychological function; Psychology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Despite considerable research efforts, the incidence and mechanisms of diffuse cognitive impairment after coronary artery bypass surgery are not fully understood. The aim of the dissertation was to describe cognitive changes after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and the predictors and consequences thereof. READ MORE
