  1. 11. Pregnancy Complications and Cardiovascular Disease

    Author : Elin Täufer Cederlöf; Christina Christersson; Bertil Lindahl; Maria Lundgren; Serena Tonstad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pregnancy complications; Cardiovascular disease; Prevention;

    Abstract : Women with a history of pregnancy complications have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) later in life. The overall aims were to investigate pregnancy complications as cardiovascular risk factors; whether they have predictive value for the spread of atherosclerosis in older women, whether they are associated with atherosclerotic CVD after adjusting for major confounders, both at the population-level and in women with structural heart disease; and to investigate cardiovascular biomarkers in women with spontaneous preterm birth. 2. 12. Investigation of the origin of the coronary artery calcification process and its relationship to the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

    Author : George Koulaouzidis; Michael Henein; Katrine Åhlström Riklund; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; ethnicity; South Asians; Caucasians; reproducibility; aortic valve calcification; mitral valve calcification; family history of coronary artery disease; natural history; coronary artery calcium score; meta-analysis;

    Abstract : The objectives of this thesis are: a) To examine racial/ethnic differences in coronary artery calcification (CAC) and CAD, between symptomatic South Asians and Caucasians, matched for age, gender and conventional cardiovascular risk factors, b) To assess, using a meta-analysis model, the natural history of and stability of measurements of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACs) based on data collected from two large published trials: St Francis and EBEAT, c) To investigate the prevalence of coronary artery calcification in individuals with CT evidence for AVC, mitral valve calcification (MAC) or of both of them (AVC+MAC), d) To assess any potential association between premature CAD (..     Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death worldwide. In Sweden, almost 30 000 people suffer an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) each year and, despite the greatly improved survival after AMI, CVD remains the leading cause of death among women and men. READ MORE
