  1. 21. Aspects of Abnormal Glucose Regulation in Various Manifestations of Coronary Artery Disease

    Author : Petur Petursson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coronary; diabetes; glucose;

    Abstract : Background Diabetes is common among patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and is associated with an approximate doubling of the mortality risk in this patient population. Prediabetes, an intermediate glycometabolic state between normal and diabetic glucose homeostasis, is also prevalent in patients with CAD but its prognostic impact has not been studied in detail. 2. 22. Endothelial function and dysfunction in coronary artery bypass grafting

    Author : Ulf Lockowandt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CABG; Endothelin; Endothelin-blockers; endothelium; lactate; off-pump CABG; prostacyclin; radial artery; unstable angina pectoris;

    Abstract : The integrity of the endothelium is of importance for short- and long-term results following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In this thesis different factors of the endothelial role in the regulation of vascular tone in relation to various current aspects of CABG have been investigated. READ MORE

  3. 23. Platelet Inhibition and Bleeding in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Author : Ulrica Alström; Elisabeth Ståhle; Ulf Schött; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bleeding; cardiac surgery; platelet inhibition; re-exploration; cost analysis; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Thoraxkirurgi; Thorax Surgery; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Abstract : A substantial number of patients undergoing cardiac surgery are on dual anti-platelet treatment with clopidogrel and aspirin. A disadvantage with this treatment is increased risk of bleeding. Bleeding is a complication of major concern associated with adverse outcome for the patient and increased hospital resource utilization. READ MORE

  4. 24. Fibrinogen and Bleeding in Cardiac Surgery: Clinical Studies in Coronary Artery Bypass Patients

    Author : Martin Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Cardiac surgery; Hemostasis; Cardiopulmonary bypass; Fibrinogen; Bleeding;

    Abstract : Fibrinogen and Bleeding in Cardiac Surgery: Clinical Studies in Coronary Artery Bypass Patients Background: Cardiac surgery is accompanied by inflammatory activation and bleeding complications. Fibrinogen is a key factor in the coagulation cascade and can be used to treat ongoing bleeding, but is not well studied as prophylactic treatment to prevent bleeding in patients with normal plasma fibrinogen levels or as a predictive tool to identify patients with increased bleeding risk. 5. 25. Sleep, psychological symptoms and quality of life in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting

    Abstract : In this thesis sleep, psychological symptoms and quality of life (Qol) in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) at the University Hospital in Linköping were evaluated. Interviews and 24-hour polysomnography were performed prior to surgery, immediately after surgery and again at one month, with a six-month-follow-up mailed questionnaire. READ MORE
