  1. 1. Intraovarian mechanisms influencing the human corpus luteum

    Author : Ulrika Ottander; Torbjörn Hillensjö; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Corpus luteum; steroidreceptors; progesterone; LH hCG; PGF2α; ultrasonography;

    Abstract : Introduction: The human corpus luteum (CL) is a transient endocrine gland, only functionally active for about 14 days. Its principal function is to produce and secrete progesterone and thereby support the endometrium for implantation of a blastocyst and prevent rejection of the developing embryo. READ MORE

  2. 2. Blood flow and metabolism in the corpus luteum of the rat : in vivo and in vitro studies on the ovarian luteal and follicular compartment of the rat

    Author : Mats Gåfvels; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ovary; follicle; corpus luteum; blood flow; metabolism; luteinizing hormone; noradrenaline; antidiuretic hormone;

    Abstract : The ovary undergoes cyclic changes in follicular growth and luteogenesis due to the action of gonadotropins and steroids. The ovary and especially the corpus luteum has an exteremely high blood flow. There is a gap in our knowledge about the physiological role of the high blood flow of the corpus luteum. READ MORE

  3. 3. The roles of the plasminogen activator and matrix metalloproteinase systems in ovulation and corpus luteum formation

    Author : Ida Bodén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ovary; ovulation; corpus luteum; plasminogen; PA; MMP; mouse;

    Abstract : Proteases of the plasminogen activator (PA) and the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) enzyme systems are expressed in the ovulatory follicle and in the developing corpus luteum (CL). However, the functional role of these extracellular degrading protease systems in the ovulatory and CL development processes remains elusive. READ MORE

  4. 4. Matrix degrading proteases in the ovary : expression and function

    Author : Patrik Wahlberg; Tor Ny; Ilpo Huhtaniemi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; ovary; ovulation; corpus luteum; plasminogen; PA; MMP; rat; mouse; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Extracellular matrix degrading proteases from the plasminogen (plg) activator (PA) and the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) systems have been implicated as important mediators of ovulation and corpus luteum (CL) formation and regression. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the expression and regulation of PAs and MMPs in the ovary and to examine their functional roles for CL formation and function. READ MORE

  5. 5. Xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes and enzymes involved in the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in the porcine ovary : subcellular distributions and levels of expression during follicular maturation and in the non-pregnant and pregnant corpus luteum

    Author : Maria Eliasson; Thomas Friedberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) is metabolized by both porcine ovarian microsomes and mitochondria, with the highest activity being seen in the corpus luteum. Microsomal DMBA monooxygenase activity is inhibited by inhibitors of the CYP450 system and by 17-bestradiol, thus indicating involvement of CYP1B1. READ MORE
