  1. 11. Hadronic Interactions at High and Low Energies

    Author : Marius Utheim; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QCD; Phenomenology; Hadronic rescattering; Heavy ions; Exotic hadrons; Cosmic rays;

    Abstract : In the past, development of the PYTHIA event generator has mainly concentrated on the physics of proton–proton collisions at high energies, as this is the most important case to modern high energy physics experiments. However, there are situations where more generic beam configurations are relevant. READ MORE

  2. 12. NOx Production by Ionisation Processes in Air

    Author : Mahbubur Rahman; Vernon Cooray; Pierre Laroche; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; Nitrogen oxides; Lightning; Electrical Discharges; Cosmic Rays; Troposphere; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : The study presented in this thesis was motivated by the large uncertainty on the concentration of atmospheric electrical discharges to the global nitrogen budget. This uncertainty is partly due to the fact that information concerning the NOx production efficiency of electrical discharges having current signatures similar to those of lightning flashes is not available in the literature. 3. 13. On the Search for High-Energy Neutrinos : Analysis of data from AMANDA-II

    Author : Johan Lundberg; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Els de Wolf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrinos; neutrino detection; cosmic rays; ultra-high energy; numerical simulation; optical properties; monte carlo method; ray tracing; neutrino detection; AMANDA; IceCube; WIMP; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : A search for a diffuse flux of cosmic neutrinos with energies in excess of 1014 eV was performed using two years of AMANDA-II data, collected in 2003 and 2004. A 20% evenly distributed sub-sample of experimental data was used to verify the detector description and the analysis cuts. READ MORE

  4. 14. Nonlinear Evolution in High Energy QCD

    Author : Emil Avsar; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementarpartikelfysik; quantum field theory; DIS; Elementary particle physics; Saturation; QCD; Small-x Physics; kvantfältteori; High energy interactions; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi;

    Abstract : QCD at very high energies is still not very well understood. Difficulties arise from a strong non-linear dynamics and also from nonperturbative physics. Detailed analytic calculations are often only possible either for simple toy models, or for asymptotically high energies. READ MORE
