  1. 1. Policy Analysis for Different Types of Decision-Making Situations

    Author : Matts Andersson; Svante Mandell; Karin Brundell-Freij; Jonas Eliasson; Lars Hultkrantz; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; transaction cost; transition cost; misalignment; parking policy; strategic interaction; spillover; resource flow; reference forecast; kilometer tax; minimum parking requirements; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : This thesis seeks to contribute to decision support for policy makers in the transport sector. In order to frame the papers and to relate them to the broad field of “policy analysis”, I have structured the papers around a simple framework with three decision levels: responsibility, policy gap, and policy measure. 2. 2. Learning local predictive accuracy for expert evaluation and forecast combination

    Author : Oscar Oelrich; Mattias Villani; Francesco Ravazzolo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian; forecast combination; predictive density; Gaussian process; bootstrap; Bayes factors; model selection; Bayesian predictive synthesis; nonparametric methods; power transformation; expected log predictive density; variable selection; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers that study several topics related to expert evaluation and aggregation. Paper I explores the properties of Bayes factors. Bayes factors, which are used for Bayesian hypothesis testing as well as to aggregate models using Bayesian model averaging, are sometimes observed to behave erratically. READ MORE

  3. 3. Two-Level Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for Risk-Based Life Cycle Cost Analysis

    Author : Yamur K. Al-Douri; Uday Kumar; Jan Lundberg; Hussan Hamodi; Ahmed Al-Dubai; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Artificial intelligence AI ; Life cycle cost LCC ; Machine learning ML ; Multi-objective genetic algorithm MOGA ; Risk-based life cycle cost LCC ; Tunnel fans; Two-level system; Operation and Maintenance Engineering; Drift och underhållsteknik;

    Abstract : Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fields in science and engineering and encompasses a wide variety of subfields, ranging from general areas (learning and perception) to specific topics, such as mathematical theorems. AI and, specifically, multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) for risk-based life cycle cost (LCC) analysis should be performed to estimate the optimal replacement time of tunnel fan systems, with a view towards reducing the ownership cost and the risk cost and increasing company profitability from an economic point of view. 4. 4. On Distributed Balancing of Wind Power Forecast Deviations in Competitive Power Systems

    Author : Richard Scharff; Lennart Söder; Mikael Amelin; Gerard L. Doorman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; balancing; wind power integration; electricity market; wind power variations; wind power forecast errors;

    Abstract : Wind power generation does, on the one hand, contribute to a less polluting and more sustainable electric power generation mix. On the other hand, the uncertainty and the variability of the power output do challenge the operation of the power system: hourly variations in wind power generation are hardly predictable in a precise way. 5. 5. On System Safety and Reliability Methods in Early Design Phases : Cost Fo cused Optimization Applied on Aircraft Systems

    Author : Cristina Johansson; Johan Ölvander; Per Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : System Safety and Reliability are fundamental to system design and involve a quantitative assessment prior to system development. An accurate prediction of reliability and system safety in a new product before it is manufactured and marketed is necessary as it allows us to forecast accurately the support costs, warranty costs, spare parts requirements, etc. READ MORE
