    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inguinal hernia; TEP; Lichtenstein; convalescence; recurrence; chronic pain; cost-minimisation; Surgery; Kirurgi; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Inguinal hernia repair is the most common operation in general surgery. Its main challenge is to achieve low recurrence rates. With the introduction of mesh implants, first in open and later in laparoscopic repair, recurrence rates have decreased substantially. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimisation of Local and National Energy Systems : Development and Use of the MODEST Model

    Author : Dag Henning; Carl-Johan Fogelholm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Energy may be supplied by a multitude of components. Computer simulation helps in finding a beneficial system design. The energy-system optimisation model MODEST has been developed, and it has been applied to municipal, regional, and national energy systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Future urban sustainable mobility - Implementing and understanding the impacts of policies designed to reduce private automobile usage

    Author : Peter Loukopoulos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Car-use reduction; Land-use planning; Public participation; Travel choice; psychology;

    Abstract : The historically recent growth in interest in policies designed to reduce private automobile usage, policies coming under the rubric of travel demand management (TDM), is offset by a paucity of systematic research concerning the procedures by which to define and implement such TDM policies or measures, the consequences of such TDM measures and the nature of the ensuing adaptation process occurring upon implementation of any TDM measure. The present thesis’ conceptual framework for understanding the effects of TDM measures extends and complements previous work in the transportation literature by drawing on psychological theories of goal setting and adaptation. 5. 5. On the use of process integration methods : evaluation of energy and CO2 emission strategies in blast furnace ironmaking and oxygen steelmaking

    Author : Christer Ryman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : This work deals with sustainable resource utilisation in integrated (iron ore based) steelmaking, with special emphasis on how to analyse process adaptation and developments aiming towards lowering of the emission of greenhouse gases, in particular carbon dioxide (CO2), to the atmosphere. Climate change and management of CO2 are real issues for the steel industry these days. READ MORE
