  1. 11. Studies of transcription factor domains and their interactions with other transcription factors

    Author : Monica E. Ferreira; Anthony Wright; Kurt Berndt; Iain McEwan; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The studies in this thesis deal with different questions concerning interactions of functional domains of factors involved in transcriptional regulation. The first study of this thesis is focused on the target factor binding mechanism of transcriptional activators. READ MORE

  2. 12. Eukaryotic Ribosome Biogenesis : Focus on the function of the assembly factor Mrd1p

    Author : Åsa Segerstolpe; Lars Wieslander; Susan Gerbi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome biogenesis; nucleolus; pre-rRNA processing; RNA-binding proteins; Mrd1; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The ribosome, the protein factory of the cell, is essential for all life forms. The ribosome is a large RNA-protein machine. It is built in a complex, multi-step process that involves a large number of accessory trans-acting factors and the synthesis consumes a considerable part of the cellular energy. READ MORE

  3. 13. Protein and lipid interactions within the respiratory chain : Studies using membrane-mimetic systems

    Author : Tobias Nilsson; Peter Brzezinski; Petra Hellwig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cytochrome c oxidase; ATP synthase; Bioenergetics; membrane-mimetics; Rcf1; liposomes; oxidative phosphorylation; lipids; protein-protein interactions; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Energy conversion from nutrients to ATP is a vital process in cells. The process, called oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) is performed by a combination of membrane-bound proteins. These proteins have been studied in great detail in the past, however much is still unknown about how they interact with each other. READ MORE

  4. 14. Continuum modelling of the mechanical response of paper-based materials

    Author : Eric Borgqvist; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; paperboard; constitutive modeling; anistropy; finte deformations; plasticity; damage; continuum mechanics;

    Abstract : Continuum based elasto-plastic-damage models for paperboard have been established in this work. The thesis begins with an introductory section that describes the mechanical properties of paperboard and some of the converting processes during forming of a package. READ MORE

  5. 15. Molecular development of a thermostable β-glucosidase for modification of natural products

    Author : Sami Khan; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : Thermotoga neapolitana; TnBgl1A; Mutagenesis; Flavonoid; Quercetin; Immobilisation; Chaperones;

    Abstract : The gene encoding a β-glucosidase originating from the extreme thermophile Thermotoga neopolitana has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The aim was to produce a thermostable enzyme that could be used to remove sugar residues from glucosylated natural products classified as flavonoids by applying a method combining extraction in hot pressurized water with enzymatic hydrolysis.
