  1. 1. Studies of effective theories beyond the Standard Model

    Author : Stella Riad; Tommy Ohlsson; Mattias Blennow; Johan Rathsman; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Effective field theories; neutrino physics; extra dimensions; universal extra dimensions; Higgs physics; renormalization group running; Bayesian statistics; coupling scale factor; grand unified theories;

    Abstract : The vast majority of all experimental results in particle physics can be described by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. However, neither the existence of neutrino masses nor the mixing in the leptonic sector, which have been observed, can be described within this model. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design, fabrication and characterization of plasmonic components based on silicon nanowire platform

    Author : Fei Lou; Lech Wosinski; Lars Thylén; Sebastian Lourdudoss; Anatoly Zayats; KTH; []
    Keywords : Planar integrated circuit; silicon photonics; plasmonics; subwavelength; directional coupler; polarization beam splitter; disk resonator; ring resonator; finite-difference time-domain; photonic crystal; electro-optic polymer; Purcell factor.;

    Abstract : Optical interconnects based on CMOS compatible photonic integrated circuits are regarded as a promising technique to tackle the issues traditional electronics faces, such as limited bandwidth, latency, vast energy consumption and so on. In recent years, plasmonic integrated components have gained great attentions due to the properties of nano-scale confinement, which may potentially bridge the size mismatch between photonic and electronic circuits. 3. 3. Ecology of zooplankton communities: climate, dormancy, and benthic-pelagic coupling

    Author : Mikael Gyllström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; limnology; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; phytoplankton; temporal stability; recruitment; seasonal succession; environmental cues; diapause; shallow lakes; predation; enrichment; climate; temperature;

    Abstract : This thesis describes how influences, such as top down and bottom up forces, shape zooplankton communities in shallow lakes. I have also extended the traditional food-web theory by investigating the effects of climate on total biomass, taxonomic composition, and temporal properties of zooplankton communities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transport Studies of Local-Gate Defined Quantum Dots in Nanowires

    Author : Carina Fasth; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiconductory physics; Fysik; Physics; quantum devices; nanowire; quantum dot; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on electrical transport in semiconductor InAs nanowires grown by chemical beam epitaxy. Initially, transport length scales of homogeneous InAs n-type nanowires are characterized by low-temperature magnetoconductance measurements. The measurements show phase-coherent conductivity corrections. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fabrication and Characterization of Photonic Crystals, Optical Metamaterials and Plasmonic Devices

    Author : Jing Wang; Min Qiu; Min Yan; Ping Shum; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Photonic crystals; metamaterials; plasmonics; Photonics; Fotonik; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract :  Nanophotonics is an emerging research field that deals with interaction between light and matter in a sub-micron length scale. Nanophotonic devices have found an increasing number of applications in many areas including optical communication, microscopy, sensing, and solar energy harvesting especially during the past two decades.
