  1. 1. Magnetism and Structure in Metallic Multilayers

    Author : Erik Holmström; Turek Ilja; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Magnetism; Interfaces; Structure; KKR-ASA; CPA; Quantum Well; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The interplay between magnetism and structure has been studied in magnetic multilayers by electronic structure calculations based on density functional theory and analyzed in terms of models. The main ideas behind the Korringa-Kohn-Rostocker Green’s function method are described and the implementation of the coherent potential approximation is outlined. READ MORE

  2. 2. Second-generation High-Order Harmonic Sources — From CPA to OPCPA

    Author : Piotr Rudawski; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical parametric chirped pulse amplification; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Rudawski; Chirped pulse amplification; High-order harmonic generation; Attosecond pulse;

    Abstract : This thesis presents two sources of extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation based on high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in gases. The sources were developed for experiments requiring high-flux harmonic beams or HHG pulses at high-repetition rate. These were used experimentally to image nano-scale objects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Author : Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 4. 4. Creep modeling and first-principles investigation of high-temperature alloys

    Author : Jing Zhang; Pavel A. Korzhavyi; Rolf Sandström; Gunther Eggeler; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Austenitic stainless steels; Nickel-based superalloys; Fundamental creep models; EMTO-CPA method; Quasi-harmonic Debye model; Thermo-mechanical properties; High temperatures.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Stainless steels and nickel-based superalloys are materials that have been widely used to manufacture components servicing at high temperatures. Creep strength is one of the most important properties in such conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pharmacogenetic and pharmacokinetic studies of cyclophosphamide : in cell, animal and human

    Author : Hanjing Xie; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cyclophosphamide; Cytochrome P450; Metabolism; Pharmacokinetics; 4Hydroxycyclophosphamide;

    Abstract : Cyclophosphamide (CPA) is widely used anti-cancer drug that has to be catalyzed by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme 2B6 as well as some other CYPs to exert its cytotoxic activity. A high degree of interindividual variation in CPA kinetics has been reported in both children and adult patients, which may be due to several factors such as concomitantly used drugs, variation in physiological status of individual patients and genetic polymorphism of the CYP enzymes.
