21. Mechanical behaviour of a roller bearing steel : Strength differential effect, low temperature creep and propagation of short cracks
Abstract : Fatigue cracks in bearings either initiate from the surface or from an inclusion below the rolling contact surface. Then, short cracks start to propagate. Short crack grow at considerably faster rates than long cracks subjected to a nominally equivalent stress intensity factor range. READ MORE

22. Modelling of fatigue crack propagation in Inconel 718 under hold time conditions
Abstract : In this thesis an investigation and modelling of the fatigue crack propagation in the nickel based superalloy Inconel 718, with a special emphasis on the effect of hold times, is presented. The modelling work has been concentrated on describing the hold time fatigue crack propagation by using the concept of a damaged zone in front of the crack tip, which is believed to have a lowered resistance against crack propagation. 23. Failure of thinwalled structures under impact loading
Abstract : Thinwalled structures are widely used for different applications, e.g. maritime structures, vehicles, off-shore structures, aircraft fuselage, ship panels etc., and due to their applicationthey might be exposed to high strain rate loads as blast loads. READ MORE

24. Failure of thin-walled structures under impact loading
Abstract : Increase in computational power during recent years contributed to a significant development in numerical methods in mechanics. There are many methods developed that address various complex problems, yet modelling of initiation and propagation of failure in thin-walled structures requires further development. READ MORE

25. On the Modelling of Fracture Using Strong Discontinuities
Abstract : The major concern of this work is the constitutive and numerical modelling of fracture, based on strong discontinuity formulations. More particularly, an extended finiteelement approach is used, where the total displacement is separated in two mutuallyindependent fields, representing the continuous and discontinuous displacement respectively.
