  1. 1. Topology Optimization of Fatigue-Constrained Structures

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Henrik Svärd; KTH.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; topology optimization; fatigue constraints; stress constraints; density filters; restriction methods; weakest link theory; critical plane criteria; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : Fatigue, or failure of material due to repeated cyclic loading, is one of the most common causes of mechanical failures. The risk of fatigue in a load carrying component is often lowered by adding material, thereby reducing stresses. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the fracture behaviour of softwood a combined experimental and computational study of the interaction between fracture behaviour and material anatomy

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Lars Olof Jernkvist; Malmö University.; [2000]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Technology;

    Abstract : The propensity for fracture, i.e. failure through separation of the material, is a factor that must be regarded in the design of wooden structures, but also in wood machining operations and drying. READ MORE

  3. 3. Compressive failure of unidirectional NCF composites

    University dissertation from ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Gothenburg

    Author : Dennis Wilhelmsson; [2019]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aerospace; Fibre misalignment; Compressive failure; NCF composite;

    Abstract : With more people flying every year, new technologies are needed to reduce our impact on the environment. One option is to reduce the energy used in flight by introducing lighter materials such as carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP). READ MORE

  4. 4. Clinical characteristics and prognosis of peripartum cardiomyopathy

    University dissertation from Umea : Print and Media, Umea University

    Author : Kamilu Musa Karaye; Umeå universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peripartum cardiomyopathy; characteristics; survival; selenium; RV dysfunction; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Background:Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is an incompletely understood disease that causes significant morbidity and mortality in many parts of the world, including Northern Nigeria. The aims of this Thesis were: [1] to determine if selenium deficiency, serum ceruloplasmin and traditional birth practices are risk factors for PPCM, in Kano, Nigeria; [2] to describe the one year survival and left ventricular reverse remodeling (LVRR) in a group of patients with PPCM from three referral hospitals in Kano, Nigeria; [3] to identify potential electrocardiographic (ECG) predictors of PPCM; and [4] to assess right ventricular systolic dysfunction (RVSD) and remodelling in a cohort of PPCM patients in Kano, Nigeria.
