6. Towards Abatement of Selected Emissions from Metals Manufacturing
Abstract : Although the metallurgical industry has made great strides in the reduction of unwanted emissions to the atmosphere as a result of production processes, significant challenges still exist. From a global perspective, even large reductions in emissions per produced ton become immaterial when considering that the total world production of metals continues to increase. READ MORE

7. Functionalised surfaces for bacterial discrimination
Abstract : Bacterial detection and identification is a critical step in many arenas, including food and water safety, clinical diagnostics, bioprocess control and biosecurity. Social hygiene has a direct correlation with the strict control of microorganisms in these fields. READ MORE

8. An Experimental Study on Micro-Hydrodynamics of Evaporating/Boiling Liquid Film
Abstract : Study of liquid film dynamics is of significant importance to the understanding and control of various industrial processes that involve spray cooling (condensation), heating (boiling), coating, cleaning and lubrication. For instance, the critical heat flux (CHF) of boiling heat transfer is one of the key parameters ensuring the efficiency and safety of nuclear power plants under both operational and accident conditions, which occurs as the liquid layers (microlayer and macrolayer) near the heater wall lose their integrity. 9. Characterisation of Functional Pressing Die Surfaces
Abstract : The manufacture of dies and moulds is a critical aspect of many production systems since the manufacturing and try-out of new dies and moulds often is essential in determining the lead-time and quality of a new production system. In the automotive industry, many new car models are introduced each year and for each of these models, a new set of pressing dies has to be designed and manufactured. READ MORE

10. Ion Tracks for Micro- and Nanofabrication : From Single Channels to Superhydrophobic Surfaces
Abstract : A method is described for preset-count irradiations between 1 and 100 ions singling-out individual ions from an ion beam with more than a billion ions arriving per second. The ion tracks are etched in a conductometric system with real-time evaluation of the acquired data. The etch process can be interrupted when reaching a preset channel diameter. READ MORE
