1. Experimental investigation of flows related to gas turbine combustion
Abstract : The notion of "global warming" has become a major public-domain concept as an environmental threat to our future on earth. Independently of the accuracy of existing prediction of combustion emissions on the climate on earth, the concept of reducing combustion emissions has been an important political driving force in imposing more and more severe restrictions on harmful emissions from combustion. 2. Vortices in turbulent curved pipe flow-rocking, rolling and pulsating motions
Abstract : This thesis is motivated by the necessity to understand the flow structure of turbulent flows in bends encountered in many technical applications such as heat exchangers, nuclear reactors and internal combustion engines. Flows in bends are characterised by strong secondary motions in terms of counter-rotating vortices (Dean cells) set up by a centrifugal instability. READ MORE

3. A Particle Image Velocimetry Study of Bubbly Gas-Liquid Flow
Abstract : The aim of this work is to build a framework that can be used for characterizing the bubbly gas liquid turbulent flow in the stirred bioreactor tank. To this end we have developed and modified techniques with which to measure the velocity of both dispersed gas and carrier liquid phases by the optical measurement technique, a 2-CCD camera Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system; and to characterize the turbulence by the wavelets tool, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD). 4. On Gas Turbine Diagnostics with Emphasis on Combustion Chambers
Abstract : The thesis aims to analyse the gas turbine based energy conversion systems with the emphasis on combustion chambers. The investigation is mainly experimental at a component level. The majority of investigations concentrate on gaseous fuel firing. READ MORE

5. Development of LPP-Burner for Industrial Gas Turbine Application
Abstract : This thesis reports the work done in the development of a modified Lean Premix Prevaporised (LPP) burner for the use in Alstom Power Sweden’s industrial gas turbines. Incentive for the development of the modified burner have been the need to increase the flame stability over the operating range for the burner, especially for the liquid fuel but also the gaseous fuel operation.
