    Abstract : Background: The relevance of conducting this thesis is evident by the fact that bus and coach casualties have been “stubbornly stable” in Europe recent years and a need for investigating if a similar trend could be found in Sweden is therefore obvious. It was also important to add new knowledge to the bus and coach research in Sweden, since many areas were scarcely addressed. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Rail Vehicle Dynamics in Unsteady Crosswind Conditions : Studies Related to Modelling, Model Validation and Active Suspension

    Author : Dirk Thomas; Berg Mats; Sebastian Stichel; Jordi Vinolas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik;

    Abstract : Crosswind stability of rail vehicles has been a research area for several decades, mainlymotivated by vehicle overturning accidents and higher speeds, but in recent times also byissues of lower energy consumption and track maintenance costs demanding lower vehi-cle weights. During everyday operation, rail vehicles are subjected to substantial lateralinfluences from track curves, track irregularities and crosswind, leading to large suspen-sion deflections and increased crosswind sensitivity. 3. 3. Tilting trains : Technology, benefits and motion sickness

    Author : Rickard Persson; Evert Andersson; Karl Kottenhoff; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tilting trains; motion sickness; ride comfort; running time; track geometry; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Carbody tilting is today a mature and inexpensive technology allowing higher speeds in curves and thus reduced travel time. The technology is accepted by most train operators, but a limited set of issues still holding back the full potential of tilting trains. READ MORE
