  1. 1. Biomaterial Components Prepared by Titanium Powder Technology

    Author : Mikael Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dental; coping; biomaterial; titanium-hydroxyapatite composite; crown; cold isostatic pressing; deformation; titanium powder; high velocity compaction; powder metallurgy;

    Abstract : The main objectives of this work were twofold: First, to determine if a pressed-powder method could be used to fabricate titanium dental copings, and to line out what problems or benefits this new method would have. Second, to test if high velocity compaction of titanium powder could be used to form biomaterial components such as copings or dental implants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evolution of Plants : a mathematical perspective

    Author : Magnus Lindh; Åke Brännström; Jacob Johansson; Mats G Larson; Lennart Persson; Claus Rüffler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; plants; mathematics; optimization; optimal control; adaptive dynamics; flowering; seasons; tree crown; drought; taproot; trade-off; strategy; trait; ESS; NPP; LAI; Red Queen; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : The Earth harbors around 300 000 plant species. The rich and complex environment provided by plants is considered a key factor for the extraordinary diversity of the terrestrial fauna by, for example, providing food and shelter. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hardening Distortions of Serial Produced Gears

    Author : Anders Olofsson; Stefan Jonsson; Julia Gerth; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hardening distortions; crown wheel; main shaft gear; gear runout; back-face tilt; macrosegregation; ingot casting; continuous casting; case hardening; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Hardening distortions are unwanted changes in shape and dimension that arise during hardening of steel components. Uncontrolled distortions induce random errors to the manufacturing process, and have a strong negative impact on manufacturing costs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Asymmetric Catalysis : Ligand Design and Conformational Studies

    Author : Kristina Hallman; KTH; []
    Keywords : asymmetric catalysis; chiral ligand; oxazolines; conformational study; allylic substitution; polymer-bound ligands; dendritic ligands; crown ether; oxidations; palladacycle;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the design of ligands for efficientasymmetric catalysis and studies of the conformation of theligands in the catalytically active complexes. All ligandsdeveloped contain chiral oxazoline heterocycles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Self Assembly at the Liquid Air Interface

    Author : Niga Petru; Rutland Mark; Ye Shen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; VSFS; SFG; interface; crown ethers; ethylene oxides; ionic liquids; fatty acids; domains.; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this work is to study the interfacial properties of amphiphilic compounds at the liquid–air interface in an attempt to develop a comprehensive understanding of their orientation as well as the influence of their interaction with the solvent on the interfacial layer properties. Using Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS) as the main tool, the molecular structure of the amphiphilic layer and the amphiphile–solvent relation can be illuminated in great detail – it is arguably the most sensitive surface spectroscopy currently available.
