  1. 1. Dynamic Modelling of Physical Processes in Magmatic Systems: Dyke Emplacement and Flow-Induced Crystal Rotations

    Author : Rémi Vachon; Christoph F. Hieronymus; Janine Kavanagh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical solutions; elasticity and anelesticity; fracturing; magmatic plumbing system; sheet-like intrusions; rheology of the crust; physics of magma; solid mechanics; fluid flow; crystal rotation;

    Abstract : The main motivation for this thesis is to develop and improve numerical tools and methods that help further our comprehension of the volcanic plumbing system and its dynamics.The commonly used standard elastic model predicts solutions of dyke shape, thickness, over-pressure and fracturing criteria that do not always fit natural observations. 2. 2. Open-framework Structures Built by Inorganic Clusters : Synthesis and Characterization

    Author : Hong Chen; Junliang Sun; Xiaodong Zou; Thomas E Albrecht-Schmitt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Open-framework; germanates; vanadoborates; aluminoborates; germanosilicates; crystal structure; hydrothermal synthesis; crystal X-ray diffraction; rotation electron diffraction; powder X-ray diffraction; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Novel open-framework germanates and vanadoborates, which are constructed from typical types of clusters, have been synthesized based on different strategies. The crystal structures are solved by using single crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD) technique or by combined techniques. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of crystalline materials by rotation electron diffraction : Phase identification and structure determination

    Author : Yifeng Yun; Xiaodong Zou; Christian W. Lehmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron microscopy; phase identification; rotation electron diffraction; structure determination; three-dimensional electron diffraction; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Electron crystallography is powerful for determination of complex structures. The newly-developed 3D electron diffraction (ED) methods make structure determination from nano- and micron-sized crystals much easier than using other methods, for example X-ray diffraction. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structure determination of beam sensitive crystals by rotation electron diffraction : the impact of sample cooling

    Author : Fei Peng; Junliang Sun; Xiaodong Zou; Dag Nores; Ute Kolb; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron crystallography; rotation electron diffraction; structure determination; cooling; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Electron crystallography is complementary to X-ray crystallography. Single crystal X-ray diffraction requires the size of a crystal to be larger than about 5 × 5 × 5 μm3 while a TEM allows a million times smaller crystals being studied. This advantage of electron crystallography has been used to solve new structures of small crystals. READ MORE

  5. 5. A journey towards complete structure determination of zeolites by electron crystallography methods

    Author : Elina Kapaca; Xiaodong Zou; Philippe Boullay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron crystallography; Zeolites; Structure determination; Rotation electron diffraction; Continuous rotation electron diffraction; Disorder; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Electron crystallography has recently become very successful for structural studies of materials with sub-micrometer sized crystals. In this thesis two major techniques have been applied for structure elucidation – 3-dimensional electron diffraction (3D ED) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) imaging.
