  1. 21. Spherical Crystallization of Benzoic Acid

    Author : Jyothi Thati; Åke Rasmuson; Luis Moreno; Eva Blomberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spherical agglomeration; Spherical agglomeration; Benzoic acid; Solubility phase diagram; Physico mechanical properties; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Spherical agglomerates of benzoic acid crystals have been successfully prepared by drowning-out crystallization in three solvent partial miscible mixtures. Benzoic acid is dissolved in ethanol, bridging liquid is added and this mixture is fed to the agitated crystallizer containing water. READ MORE

  2. 22. Heat transfer phenomena and mould flux lubrication in continuous casting of steel

    Author : Akira Yamauchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : Heat Transfer; Thermal Conductivity; Contact Resistance; Mould Flux; Solidification; Lubrication; Infiltration; Friction; Shear Stress; Modeling; Crystallization; Rupture Strength; Solidus; High-Speed Casting; Viscosity; Elasticity; Uniform Cooling;

    Abstract : Overall thermal resistance of the mould flux was measured tomake clear the influence of the mould flux properties on theheat transfer behavior in continuous casting, especiallythermal conductivity and the formation of air gaps in thisstudy. From the investigation of the effect of the mouldsurface temperature and physical properties of the mould fluxon heat transfer through the flux film, following knowledge hasbeen obtained. READ MORE

  3. 23. Influence of Admixtures on Crystal Nucleation of Vanillin

    Author : Osvaldo Pino-García; KTH; []
    Keywords : Crystallization; nucleation; vanillin; admixtures; additives; impurities; induction time; interfacial energy; molecular modelling; interaction energy;

    Abstract : Admixtures like reactants and byproducts are solublenon-crystallizing compounds that can be present in industrialsolutions and affect crystallization of the main substance.This thesis provides experimental and molecular modellingresults on the influence of admixtures on crystal nucleation ofvanillin (VAN). 4. 24. On the two forms of amylose-lipid complexes

    Author : Fredrik Tufvesson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bread; enzymatic hydrolysis; resistant starch; digestibility; fatty acid; monoglyceride; polar lipid; differential scanning calorimetry; annealing; amylose-lipid complex; crystallization; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis is about the formation of amylose-lipid complexes, and their properties. Two forms of superstructures can be identified. Complex form I has more randomly distributed helices, while the structure of form II is crystalline and therefore exhibits the typical V-pattern in X-ray diffraction analyses. READ MORE

  5. 25. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Author : Anders Jaretun; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Potassium; Chloride; Chemical recovery; Leaching; Crystallization; Kraft pulping; Non-process elements; Solubility; Local composition; Excess properties; Osmotic coefficient; Electrolytes; Activity coefficient; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Abstract : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately.
