  1. 1. Investigation of immunological preconditions in MS patients "MS immunopathic trait"

    Author : Sara Haghighi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : multiple sclerosis; siblings; CSF; oligoclonal; cytokine; sulfatide; genetics; trait;

    Abstract : We examined 47 MS patients, 47 healthy siblings and 50 healthy unrelated individuals with blood and CSF analysis and found that 19 % (9/47) of healthy siblings of clinically definite multiple sclerosis patients had an intrathecal immunological reaction to ¡Ý 2 CSF-enriched OCB, in contrast to 4% (2/50) of the unrelated healthy controls. We termed this condition ¡°MS immunopathic trait¡±. READ MORE

  2. 2. Increasing the interpretability of Alzheimer-related biomarkers: cell- and cerebrospinal fluid-based studies with focus on neurogranin

    Author : Faisal Hayat Nazir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer’s disease; biomarker; neurogranin; APP; human iPSCs; CSF;

    Abstract : Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a growing field of research. A particularly vibrant field during recent years has been biomarkers for synaptic dysfunction. READ MORE

  3. 3. Metabolomics studies of ALS : a multivariate search for clues about a devastating disease

    Author : Anna Wuolikainen; Peter M Andersen; Henrik Antti; Stefan L Marklund; Thomas Moritz; Thomas Hankemeier; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ALS ; motor neuron disease; Lou Gehrig’s disease; human disease; CSF; biomarkers; metabolomics; metabonomics; chemometrics; design of experiments; multivariate analysis.; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Charcot’s disease, motor neuron disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a deadly, adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons, resulting in evolving paresis of the linked muscles. ALS is defined by classical features of the disease, but may present as a wide spectrum of phenotypes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Statin treatment and beta-Amyloid Production in Patients with Alzheimer s Disease

    Author : Kina Höglund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Alzheimer s disease; amyloid precursor protein; beta-amyloid; cholesterol; statins; CSF;

    Abstract : Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder pathologically characterized by neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques. According to the amyloid cascade hypothesis, the increased production of beta-amyloid (Abeta), derived form the amyloid precursor protein (APP), and its aggregation into plaques are key pathological events, driving neurodegeneration in AD. 5. 5. Long-term treatment response, predictors and biochemical markers in Alzheimer’s disease

    Author : Åsa Wallin; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; treatment response; cholinesterase inhibitor; CSF-biomarkers; pre-treatment progression; predictors; Alzheimer’s disease;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is clinically characterised by an insidious onset with progressive symptoms of memory impairment, dysphasia, dyspraxia, dygnosia and visuospatial difficulties. Degeneration of neurons in specific regions of the brain, formation of senile plaques and neurofibrillary changes are some of the neuropathological features of the disease. READ MORE
