  1. 1. Telomere length : dynamics and role as a biological marker in malignancy

    Author : Ulrika Svenson; Göran Roos; Uwe Martens; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Telomere length; peripheral blood; immune cells; breast cancer; renal cell carcinoma; biological marker; patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : Telomeres are protective structures at the end of our chromosomes, composed of multiple repeats of the DNA sequence TTAGGG. They are essential for maintaining chromosomal stability by preventing damage and degradation of the chromosome ends. READ MORE

  2. 2. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers

    Author : Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adjustable grip; blood lactate; centre of pressure; cycle length; cycle rate; economy; efficiency; friction coefficient; heart rate; normal force; OBLA; oxygen uptake; power; ratcheted wheel; ratings of perceived exertion; roller skis; rolling resistance; tangential force; time to exhaustion;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. READ MORE

  3. 3. The rolling resistances of roller skis and their effects on human performance during treadmill roller skiing

    Author : Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Per Tesch; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood lactate; cycle length; cycle rate; heart rate; oxygen uptake; performance; power; roller skis; rolling resistance; ratings of perceived exertion; work economy; Sports; Idrott;

    Abstract : Modern ski-treadmills allow cross-country skiers, biathletes and ski-orienteers to test their physical performance in a laboratory environment using classical and freestyle techniques on roller skis. For elite athletes the differences in performance between test occasions are quite small, thus emphasising the importance of knowing the roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficient, µR, in order to allow correct comparisons between the results, as well as providing the opportunity to study work economy between different athletes, test occasions and core techniques. 4. 4. Snarks : Generation, coverings and colourings

    Author : Jonas Hägglund; Roland Häggkvist; Klas Markström; Luis Goddyn; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Snarks; cubic graphs; enumeration; cycle covers; perfect matching covers; Fulkerson s conjecture; strong cycle double cover conjecture; cycle decompositions; stable cycles; oddness; circumference; uncolourability measures; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : For a number of unsolved problems in graph theory such as the cycle double cover conjecture, Fulkerson's conjecture and Tutte's 5-flow conjecture it is sufficient to prove them for a family of graphs called snarks. Named after the mysterious creature in Lewis Carroll's poem, a \emph{snark} is a cyclically 4-edge connected 3-regular graph of girth at least 5 which cannot be properly edge coloured using three colours. 5. 5. Ovarian Reserve and Assisted Reproduction

    Author : Thomas Brodin; Jan Holte; Matts Olovsson; Lars Berglund; Juha Tapanainen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AFC; AMH; anti-Müllerian hormone; antral follicle count; follicle-stimulating hormone; FSH; ICSI; infertility; intracytoplasmic sperm injection; in vitro fertilization; IVF; LH; live birth; luteinizing hormone; menstrual cycle; menstrual cycle length; ovarian reserve; pregnancy; reproductive endocrinology; reproductive technology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Treatment success in IVF-ICSI is mainly limited by female age, but differences in ovarian reserve (OR; the remaining pool of oocytes and their quality) between individuals modify treatment prerequisites among women of similar age. OR may be assessed by OR tests (ORTs). READ MORE
