  1. 1. Cyclic AMP Oscillations in Insulin-Secreting Cells

    Author : Jenny Sågetorp; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Lena Stenson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Cyclic AMP is an intracellular messenger that regulates numerous processes in various types of cells. In pancreatic β-cells, cAMP potentiates the secretion of insulin by promoting Ca2+ signals and by amplifying Ca2+-triggered exocytosis. Whereas Ca2+ signals have been extensively characterized, little is known about the kinetics of cAMP signals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modulation of serous salivary gland function by the sympathetic nervous system : a biochemical and ultrastructural study with special reference to β-adrenoceptor subtypes

    Author : Roger Henriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Rat parotid gland; guinea-pig submandibular gland; ß-adrenoceptor subtypes; sympathetic denervation; sympathetic superstimulation; amylase secretion; cyclic AMP; ultrastructural stereology;

    Abstract : The aim of the present investigation was to study the influence of the sympathetic nervous system and of various adrenoceptor agents on enzyme secretion and morphology in rat parotid and guinea-pig submandibular glands. Biochemical methods were combined with electron microscopical techniques. READ MORE

  4. 4. Precipitating Amine Absorption Systems for Carbon Capture

    Author : Hanna Karlsson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CO2 capture; Non-aqueous; AMP; Solubility; Heat of absorption;

    Abstract : Carbon capture using amine-based absorption is an established technology for the separation of gaseous CO2. It is used in the upgrading of gaseous fuels, and it has also been suggested that it could play a crucial role in the mitigation of climate change through post-combustion carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), and by creating carbon sinks through bioenergy CCS. 5. 5. Transport and release of insulin granules during biphasic insulin secretion

    Author : Rosita Ivarsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; granule transport; Myosin 5a; Cyclic AMP; NADPH; Motor protein; Insulin secretion; Cytoskeleton;

    Abstract : Glucose-evoked insulin secretion exhibits two phases: The first phase represents exocytosis of insulin granules situated at the plasma membrane, whereas the second phase reflects insulin release from granules continuously recruited to the plasma membrane. This thesis investigates different aspects of phasic insulin secretion, with the specific aims to elucidate the possible contribution of insulin granule transport, as well as to study the influence of the nucleotides cAMP and NADPH to this process.
