1. Cyclic peptides as biological tools : Applications for diagnosis and therapeutics in rheumatoid arthritis and COVID-19
Abstract : The overall aims of the projects included in this thesis were to design, synthesize and evaluate cyclic peptide scaffolds grafted with biological epitopes for their ability to bind antibodies in rheumatoid arthritis and COVID-19 sera. One of the main outcomes of this thesis was the observation that scaffold peptides grafted with target epitopes efficiently neutralized anti-citrullinated protein autoantibodies (ACPA) from rheumatoid arthritis patients. 2. Stepping into Catalysis : Kinetic and Mechanistic Investigations of Photo- and Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Production with Natural and Synthetic Molecular Catalysts
Abstract : In light of its rapidly growing energy demand, human society has an urgent need to become much more strongly reliant on renewable and sustainable energy carriers. Molecular hydrogen made from water with solar energy could provide an ideal case. READ MORE

3. Diluted Operation of a Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Engine - Aiming at Improved Effciency, Emission and Maximum Load
Abstract : Most heavy-duty engines are diesel operated. Severe emission regulations, high fuel prices, high technology costs (e.g. catalysts, fuel injection systems) and unsustainably in supplying fuel are enough reasons to convenience engine developers to explore alternative technologies or fuels. 4. Conservative Definitions for Higher-order Logic with Ad-hoc Overloading
Abstract : With an ever growing dependency on computer systems, the need to guarantee their correct behaviour increases. Mathematically rigorous techniques like formal verification offer a way to derive a system's mathematical properties for example with the help of a theorem prover. READ MORE

5. Functional Performance of Gadolinium Zirconate/Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Multi-Layered Thermal Barrier Coatings
Abstract : Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is the state-of-the-art ceramic top coat material used for thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications. Demand for higher efficiency in gas turbine engines has led to a continuous increase in the gas in let temperature. However, this increase in temperature has pushed YSZ to its upper limit. READ MORE
