  1. 1. Thermochemical model studies of some high temperature solar energy conversion processes

    Author : Mats Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : solar energy conversion; cyclic processes; water splitting; hydrogen production; carbothermal reduction; Co-Fe-0 system; phase relations; solid state emf measurements;

    Abstract : This thesis is a summary and discussion of five papers, mainly dealing with processes where solar thermal energy is utilized in the production of chemicals with high energy contents. The products considered in the present work are H2, Al, and Mg. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spatial and temporal population dynamics in the mountain tundra – mesopredator and prey

    Author : Rasmus Erlandsson; Anders Angerbjörn; Dennis Murray; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population dynamics; cyclic; mountain tundra; arctic fox; Norwegian lemming; small rodents; mesopredator; predation; survival; reproduction; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : It is well known that competition, predation and fluctuating food resources can have strong effect on individual fitness and population dynamics. The complexity of natural systems can make it complicate to disentangle those processes, but environments with relatively simple food webs, and strong cyclic population dynamics offer contrasting conditions resembling experimental treatments. 3. 3. How precise is cyclic life? : Insights during a single molecule revolution of the bacterial cell cycle

    Author : Mats Walldén; Johan Elf; Peter Graumann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E.coli; cell cycle; replication initiation; transcription factor; gene-regulation; single molecule microscopy; microfluidics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Bacterial cells reproduce by doubling in size and dividing. The molecular control systems which regulate the cell cycle must do so in a manner which maintains a similar cell size over many generations. A cell can under conditions of fast growth conclude cell cycles in shorter time than the time required to replicate its chromosome. READ MORE

  4. 4. Continuum modeling of paperboard for the mechanical response of converting processes

    Author : Kristofer Robertsson; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Paperboard; Continuum modeling; Converting processes; FEM simulations; Finite strain theory; Damage modeling; Rate-dependent; Creasing and folding; Out-of-plane experiments;

    Abstract : Paperboard is a thin and lightweight material made of cellulose fibers and it is an important component in packaging material where it provides stiffness and rigidity. The scope of this work is the development of continuum models, and its numerical treatments, for simulating the processes of converting paperboard into packages. READ MORE

  5. 5. Removal processes in sewage treatment plants : Sludge quality and treatment efficiency of structurally diverse organic compounds

    Author : Ulrika Olofsson; Peter Haglund; Staffan Lundstedt; Juliane Hollender; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmetrics; flame retardants; GCxGC; non-targeted screening; mass flow; metals; plasticizers; poorly removed contaminants; POP; PPCP; prediction; Principal Component Analysis; removal efficiency; sewage; sewage treatment plants; sludge; sludge adsorption; sources; time-trend analysis; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Large and ever-increasing numbers of chemicals, including large quantities of a broad spectrum of organic compounds are used in modern society. More than 30 000 of the more than 100 000 chemical substances registered in the EU are estimated to be daily used, of which many will be discharged into the waste-streams handled by municipal sewage treatment plants (STPs).
