  1. 6. Bioassay Development for Identification of Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors of Natural Origin

    Author : Therese Ringbom; Angelika Vollmar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Abstract : To examine cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitory effects of natural compounds and structurally related compounds, a radiochemical assay for measuring inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1 catalysed prostaglandin biosynthesis was optimised. That process resulted in the development of a reliable assay for finding COX-2 inhibitors in plants, and for investigating plant constituents pertaining to the inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1. 2. 7. Studies on the Effects of Plant and Food Constituents on Cyclooxygenase-2 : Aspects in Inflammation and Cancer

    Author : Ulrika Huss; Pia Wuorela; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi;

    Abstract : In inflammatory events, the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme (COX-2) catalyses prostaglandin biosynthesis. This is a process, which could possibly be affected by natural compounds including those abundant in food. Two systems have been established to enable investigations of the effects of natural compounds on COX-2. READ MORE

  3. 8. Studies on expression and regulation of phospholipase A2 and cyclooxygenase 2 in gastrointestinal tissues with special reference to colorectal cancer

    Author : Jan Dimberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) are phospholipid hydrolyzing enzymes that in mammalian cells exist in several different isoform including cytosolic PLA2 (cPLA2), group I PLA2 (PLA2-I) and group II PLA2 (PLA2-ll). PLA2 is involved in production of inflammatory mediators, membrane remodelling, digestive functions and stimulation of prolifemtion. READ MORE

  4. 9. Integration of Tumor and Host Factors – Implications for Breast Cancer Prognosis

    Author : Maria Simonsson; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : Breast Cancer; Prognosis and survival; CYP1A2; CYP2C8; Coffee Consumption; Alcohol Consumption; Cyclooxygenase-2 COX-2 ;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, although the mortality rates have decreased in the last decades. Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease, and treatment resistance is a significant clinical problem in spite of the overall high survival rates. READ MORE

  5. 10. Intracellular Degradation of Insulin in Pancreatic Islets

    Author : Monica Sandberg; L.A.Håkan Borg; Stellan Sandler; Arne Andersson; Albert Salehi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : There is a substantial intracellular degradation of insulin in pancreatic islets. This may be a physiological process, which, in correspondence with biosynthesis and secretion of insulin, would optimize the secretory granule content of the pancreatic β-cell. READ MORE
