  1. 1. Deformation Behaviour of A356-T7 Cast Aluminium Alloys Used in High Specific Power IC Engine Cylinder Heads

    Author : Elanghovan Natesan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; fatigue; constitutive models; thermo-mechanical fatigue; a356; cylinder head;

    Abstract : The constant development drive towards higher specific power and lower displacement engines in recent years to produce environmentally friendly high-performance cars has placed increasingly high thermal loads on the internal combustion engine materials. Further, the advent of hybrid power trains placing higher demands on quick starts and a rapid approach to maximum power necessitates the automotive industry to move towards a more robust computational thermo-mechanical fatigue life prediction methodology to develop reliable engines and reduce developmental costs. 3. 3. Variable Valve Actuation in a Spark Ignition Engine - A Flow Field and Heat Release Study

    Author : Fredrik Söderberg; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; framdrivningssystem; Gases; plasma; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; hydraulik; Maskinteknik; vibration and acoustic engineering; Laser Doppler Velocimetry Particle Image Velocimetry PIV LDV Wavelet Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD Variable Valve Actuation Timing Turbulence Combustion Engine Spark Ignition Miller; hydraulics; vacuum technology; Mechanical engineering;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to find ways of improving part-load efficiency for a spark ignition engine by studying the effects of variable-valve actuation on fluid flow and combustion. The in-cylinder flow was measured with laser doppler velocimetry, LDV, and particle image velocimetry, PIV. READ MORE

  4. 4. Crankshaft speed measurements and analysis for control and diagnostics of diesel engines

    Author : Roger Johnsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk akustik; Engineering Acoustics;

    Abstract : The increasing demands from governments on the engine manufactures to lower the fuel consumption, lower the exhaust emissions and to reduce the noise have lead to an intensive research in the combustion process. Measurement of the combustion process inside the cylinder is only suitable in laboratory environment due to a number of limitations; the pressure transducer needed to measure the pressure is expensive, difficult to mount in the cylinder and has a limited lifetime that is much shorter than the engine's lifetime. 5. 5. Late Cycle Soot Oxidation in Diesel Engines

    Author : Yann Gallo; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soot oxidation; Laser extinction; Optical diagnostics; Diesel engines; Gas sampling; Particulate matter;

    Abstract : Diesel engines are the most common engine technology used in transportation. Its widespread use comes from its inherent high efficiency and its relative low cost. It suffers from pollutant emission issues, however, that need detailed understanding of their origins to meet the strictest current and upcoming emission standards. READ MORE
