  1. 21. Differentiation and Pathogenicity within the Saprolegniaceae : Studies on Physiology and Gene Expression Patterns in Saprolegnia parasitica and Aphanomyces astaci

    Author : Gunnar Andersson; Michael J. Bidochka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; fysiologisk mykologi; Physiological Mycology;

    Abstract : Saprolegnia parasitica and Aphanomyces astaci are parasitic water moulds belonging to the Oomycetes. Despite their importance as parasites they are very little studied at the molecular level and the work described in this thesis was aimed at increasing the molecular knowledge of these organisms by cloning and characterising genes of potential importance for reproduction and pathogenicity. 2. 22. Flagellates in the marine microbial food web : the ecology of a mixotrophic nanoflagellate, Ochromonas sp

    Author : Agneta Andersson-Nordström; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbial food web; flagellates; Ochromonas sp.; mixotrophy; size- selective grazing; remineralisation; excretion of DFAA;

    Abstract : Nanoflagellates were found to be abundant in a coastal area of the northern Bothnian Sea. The maximum concentration of nanoflagellates, approximately 8000 cells ml-1, was observed in July, coinciding with a decrease in the abundance of cyanobacteria. READ MORE

  3. 23. Improvement of the diagnosis and management of cystic tumors of the pancreas

    Author : Zeeshan Ateeb; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pancreatic cancer is on its course on becoming the second cause of cancer related mortality. Although improvements have been made in the treatment arsenal, still only a minority of patients are able to receive treatment with curative intention. READ MORE

  4. 24. Impact of Tissue Characteristics on Radio-Frequency Lesioning and Navigation in the Brain : Simulation, experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Johannes Johansson; Karin Wårdell; Hans von Holst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain; Radio frequency ablation; Finite element method; Monte Carlo simulation; light reflectance; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Radio-Frequency (RF) lesioning, or RF ablation, is a method that uses high frequency currents for thermal coagulation of pathological tissue or signal pathways. The current is delivered from an electrode, which also contains a temperature sensor permitting control of the current at a desired target temperature. In the brain, RF lesioning can e.g. READ MORE

  5. 25. Clinical implementation of novel diagnostic biomarkers for epithelial ovarian cancer - Can we improve diagnosis?

    Author : Maria Lycke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ovarian neoplasms; EOC; Diagnosis; protein biomarkers; HE4; CA125; Algorithms; RMI; ROMA; NGS; rare mutations; liquid biopsies; screening;

    Abstract : Background: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecologic cancer. The 5-year survival is about 30%, a consequence of failure to establish early diagnosis due to unspecific symptoms. READ MORE
