  1. 1. Tomosynthesis in pulmonary cystic fibrosis

    Author : Kristina Vult von Steyern; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cystic fibrosis; Lung; Radiation dose; Radiography; Scoring methods; Tomography; spiral computed; X-ray computed;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to investigate whether chest tomosynthesis might be used in pulmonary cystic fibrosis, to design and validate a tomosynthesis scoring system, and to determine the effective dose from chest tomosynthesis in children. In a prospective study starting in 2008 clinical chest radiography or computed tomography (CT) were supplemented with a tomosynthesis examination of the lungs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exahaled NO and small airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis

    Author : Christina Keen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; asthma; exhaled NO; children; cystic fibrosis; flow independent exhaled nitric oxide; multiple breath inert gas washout; polyunsaturated fatty acids;

    Abstract : Background: Asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) are chronic inflammatory airway disorders known to involve the peripheral airways. Non-invasive tests sensitive to peripheral airway function and inflammation are therefore of high priority. READ MORE

  3. 3. Monitoring cystic fibrosis lung disease in children - Clinical utility and associations between functional and structural methods

    Author : Marcus Svedberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystic fibrosis; children; lung disease;

    Abstract : Background: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited progressive disease that causes severe damage to the airways and other organs of the body. Many methods are available to track CF lung disease but longitudinal data are needed to better understand the clinical utility and associations between different methods. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment of chest physiotherapy in children

    Author : Anna-Lena Lagerkvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : adolescent; airway disease; chest clapping; chest physiotherapy; child; cystic fibrosis; infant; mucus; multiple severe disabilities; non-cooperative; PEP; oscillating PEP; transcutaneous blood gas analysis;

    Abstract : Chest physiotherapy (CPT) is used to improve the lung function and blood gas tensions in individuals with respiratory disease. The aim of this thesis was to assess and compare immediate effects of CPT with positive expiratory pressure (PEP) and oscillating PEP (OscPEP) on blood gas tensions in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), to assess effects of CPT with PEP in severely disabled children, to describe and evaluate a new CPT method for children who cannot co-operate, and to compare obtained results with chest clapping. 5. 5. Peripheral airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis. Measurements using inert gas washout methods

    Author : Henrik Ljungberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acinar; adults; airway hyperresponsiveness; asthma; children; conductive; functional residual capacity; gas trapping; inert gas washout; infants; peripheral airways; plethysmography; respiratory function tests; ventilation inhomogeneity;

    Abstract : It is increasingly recognised that asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) frequently involves the peripheral airways. Characteristic features of abnormal peripheral airway function are uneven ventilation distribution and increased gas trapping. READ MORE
