2. Overcoming the Barriers of Fine-Needle Aspiration
Abstract : Cysts, closed sac-like structures filled with fluid or air, can form anywhere in the body. In the majority of cases, cysts are benign (not cancerous). However, these structures can also be precursors of cancer, pointing to the location where cancer can originate. READ MORE

4. The Greenhouse - Icehouse Transition : a dinoflagellate perspective
Abstract : Through the analysis of the stratigraphic and spatial distribution of organic walled dinoflagellate cysts (dinocysts) from climatologically and oceanographically key sites, this project aims to contribute to a better understanding of the Eocene-Oligocene (E/O) environmental changes and their timing. A central issue is to identify the global environmental changes which are responsible for the Eocene cooling and its underlying mechanisms with the focus on the Oligocene isotope-1 (Oi-1) event, thought to mark the onset of major Antarctic glaciation. 5. Early stage inflammation and cancer as reflected in the gastrointestinal mucus composition: implications for diagnosis, prognosis and pathogenesis
Abstract : Mucus covers our inner interfaces towards the environment, providing protection while enabling vital interaction with the outside world. The mucus is built around mucin proteins, which are important for our defences against infection and inflammation, but may also contribute to carcinogenesis and tumour progression. READ MORE
