  1. 1. Cytochrome P450 enzymes affected by artemisinin antimalarials-pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic aspects

    Author : Sara Asimus; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : artemisinin; autoinduction; cytochrome P450; induction; inhibition; malaria; metabolism; pharmacogenetics; pharmacokinetics; probe;

    Abstract : With more than 500 million cases and at least 1 million deaths each year, malaria is a major global health problem. The main problem with malaria control is the emerging drug resistance among parasites causing the infection. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new drugs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Induction of human cytochrome P450 enzymes : predictive in vitro models and rifampicin induction in vivo

    Author : Kajsa P Kanebratt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The cytochrome P450 (P450) enzymes comprise the most important enzyme system with regard to phase I metabolism of drugs. Induction of P450s can result in decreased plasma concentrations of the drug itself or a coadminstered drug, followed by lack of effect. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gill EROD Activity in Fish : A Biomarker for Waterborne Ah-receptor Agonists

    Author : Alexandra Abrahamson; Ingvar Brandt; Björn Brunström; Janneche Utne Skaare; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; biomarker; fish; gill; CYP1A; EROD; environmental monitoring; induction; inhibition; PAH; PCB; produced water; Biologi;

    Abstract : Induction of the cytochrome P450(CYP)1A protein and the connected increase in 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity are common biomarkers in fish. Enhanced activity of this protein signals exposure to Ah-receptor agonists such as chlorinated dioxins, co-planar polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). 4. 4. Cytochrome P-450 in Drosophila melanogaster : activity, genetic variation and regulation

    Author : Inger Porsch-Hällström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cytochrome P-450 enzyme system in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, was shown to be inducible, to consist of several isozymes and to have the capacity to metabolize a variety of substrates, thus resembling the corresponding mammalian system. These similarities strengthens the value of Drosophila test systems for the detection of indirect carcinogens and mutagens. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hepatic 3D spheroids as a model system for drug-induced liver injury and cytochrome P450 induction

    Author : Delilah F G Hendriks; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a major cause of post-marketing drug withdrawals and restricted-use warnings. In addition, unexpected adverse hepatic drug reactions occurring in the clinical phases of development are a major reason for drug attrition. READ MORE
