  1. 16. Genes for cytochrome c and cytochrome c oxidase synthesis in Bacillus subtilis

    Author : Jenny Bengtsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; cytochrome; cytochrome c oxidase; Bacillus subtilis; cytochrome c synthesis; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Cytochromes are heme-containing proteins that function in electron transfer reactions, e.g. respiration and photosynthesis. There are several different types of cytochromes. READ MORE

  2. 17. 2-acetylaminofluorene : metabolism and effects on drug-metabolizing enzymes

    Author : Anders Åström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : 2-Acetylaminofluorene has been found to have two different kinds of effects on drug-metabolizing enzymes in rat liver :1. Short-term treatment with this compound induces the level of microsomal epoxide hydrolase and cytochromes P-450b+e, c, d and PB/PCN-E, with a concominant increase in the metabolism of 2-acetylaminoflurene itself. 3. 18. Theoretical studies of porphyrin proteins

    Author : Emma Sigfridsson; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molecular mechanics; quantum chemical calculations; electrostatic potential charges; atomic charges; ferrochelatase; cytochrome; myoglobin; Porphyrin; haem; QM MM; reorganisation energy; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Different aspects of porphyrin proteins have been studied with theoretical methods. For example, we have studied: - The importance of hydrogen bonds for the discrimination between carbon monoxide and molecular oxygen by myoglobin, the oxygen carrier in muscles, modelling the active site both in vacuum and in the protein matrix - The inner-sphere reorganisation energy during electron transfer for cytochromes compared to other electron-transfer proteins, such as blue copper proteins and Fe-S clusters - The role of porphyrin distortions in the reaction mechanism of ferrochelatase, the enzyme that inserts an iron ion into protoporphyrin IX to make haem - The interaction between different metal sites in ferrochelatase In these studies we have used density functional theory, classical force field methods, and a combination of quantum chemistry and molecular mechanics. 4. 19. Heterogeneous electron transfer studies with ligninolytic redox enzymes and living bacteria. Applications in biosensors and biofuel cells

    Author : Vasile Coman; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellobiose dehydrogenase; direct electron transfer; mediated electron transfer; self-assembled monolayer; flow injection analysis; amperometric biosensor; E. coli; succinate:quinone reductase; biofuel cell; B. subtilis; whole-cell biosensor;

    Abstract : The catalytic properties and the inter-domain electron transfer of cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) from the ascomycete fungus Myriococcum thermophilum adsorbed on graphite and thiol (SAM) modified gold electrodes were investigated using cyclic voltammetry, flow injection amperometry and UV-Vis spectroelectrochemistry. The fabrication and characterisation of a noncompartmentalised, mediator and cofactor free glucose–oxygen biofuel cell well-operating in glucose-containing buffers and human blood serum was performed. 5. 20. Hemoproteins of Enterococcus faecalis

    Author : Lena Frankenberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtekologi; heme Enterococcus faecalis enterococci catalase cytochrome; Plant ecology;

    Abstract : The gram-positive bacterium Enterococcus faecalis is a commensal organism, often found in the gut of humans and other animals. It can cause opportunistic disease and it frequently causes nosocomial infections. Treatment of such infections is often impaired by this organisms broad intrinsic and acquired resistance to antibiotics. E. READ MORE
