  1. 6. Ulcerative colitis : colorectal cancer risk and surveillance in an unselected population

    Author : Jan Lindberg; Curt Tysk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ulcerative colitis; colonoscopic surveillance; colorectal cancer; dysplasia; DNA aneuploidy; cytokeratin; colorectal resection; early onset; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that mainly affects the colon and rectum. Onset of disease is most common between the ages of 15-35 years. There is an observed increased risk of colorectal cancer associated with the disease. The risk is often described to be 2% after 10 years, 8% after 20 years and 18% after 30 years disease. READ MORE

  2. 7. Cancer proteomics : characterisation of protein expression in human epithelial tumours

    Author : Ayodele A Alaiya; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis; protein expression; mass spectrometry; epithelial tumour; heterogeneity;

    Abstract : Defining differences in protein expression between tumour cells of various degrees of malignancy is a first step in the development of markers for tumour diagnosis. In this thesis, the expression of multiple proteins in benign and malignant human ovarian, breast and prostate tumours was examined using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE). READ MORE

  3. 8. Cytogenetic studies of normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma

    Author : Peter Elfving; Malmö (Abrahamsson) Urologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytology; Klinisk genetik; Clinical genetics; nonneoplastic kidney tissue; renal cell carcinoma; trisomy 7; Cytogenetics; FISH; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : In the present thesis normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were studied by cytogenetic and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) methods to investigate chromosomal aberrations. In the first study, 4 samples of nonneoplastic kidney tissue were cultured for cytogenetic analysis and trisomy 7 was found in all cases in 3-15% of the cells. READ MORE

  4. 9. Functional mapping and in vivo metabolism of the monoclonal antibody TS1 and its single-chain fragment : Its interaction with the antigen and the anti-idiotype

    Author : Patrik Holm; Birgitta Sundström; Lars Gedda; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; single-chain antibody; functional mapping; site-directed mutagenesis; immune complex; metabolism; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Abstract : Antibodies are proteins capable of specific interactions to a wide range of molecules. These interactions are facilitated by the complementary determining regions (CDR).Carcinomas are the most common of human cancers and they release significant amount of cytokeratins (CK) in the necrotic areas of the tumors. Author : Amanda Seipel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate (DAC) is the second most common prostate cancer subtype. Patients with DAC often present at an advanced clinicopathological stage, with or without metastases. READ MORE
