  1. 11. Inflammation in Parkinson’s Disease and Experimental Neural Transplantation. Role of Cellular Responses, Cytokines and Immunosuppression in Graft Rejection

    Author : Bilal Mirza; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; graft rejection.; pig; human; rat; xenogeneic; allogeneic; syngeneic; transplantation immunology; immunosuppression; cytokines; neural transplantation; Parkinson’s Disease; inflammation; neurodegeneration; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Abstract: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder. There is no proven protection, but many treatments can partially improve symptoms. The disease is caused by monogenetic mechanisms in very few cases, but for the majority of patients the etiology is unknown. READ MORE

  2. 12. Cytokines in Metabolic Functions

    Author : Anna Benrick; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : IL-1; IL-6; LIF; obesity; fat mass; energy expenditure; hypothalamus; gp130 SNP; myocardial infarction;

    Abstract : During infections, circulating cytokines are largely produced by immune cells. In healthy obese individuals, large parts of these circulating cytokines are produced in adipose tissue, for instance by macrophages that have accumulated there. READ MORE

  3. 13. Perinatal brain injury - markers and mediators. Non-protein-bound iron and pro-inflammatory cytokines in newborn infants and neonatal pigs

    Author : Karin Sävman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asphyxia; hypoxia; posthemorrhagic ventricular dilatation; preterm; newborn; perinatal; brain; cerebrospinal fluid; cytokines; IL-1ß; IL-6; IL-8; TNF-a; non-protein-bound-iron;

    Abstract : Two groups of newborn infants have an increased risk for perinatal brain injury; preterm infants and term infants subjected to birth asphyxia. Experimental studies indicate that hypoxic-ischemic insults in the perinatal period initiate a secondary neurotoxic cascade including formation of toxic reactive oxygen species as well as an inflammatory response with elevated levels of potentially neurotoxic cytokines. 4. 14. Cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Ann-Kristin Ulfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rheumatoid arthritis; Synovitis; Immunohistochemistry; Digital image analysis; Cytokine Therapy; TNF neutralisation; Arthroscopy;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic disease characterised by inflammation in several joints. Cytokines appear to be important as both disease promoting and disease- suppressing mediators in the disease. READ MORE

  5. 15. Vaginal commensal bacteria. Interactions with cervix epithelial and monocytic cells and influence on cytokines and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor, SLPI

    Author : Louise Strömbeck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Prevotella bivia; bacterial vaginosis BV ; invasion; Lactobacillus; secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor SLPI ; cytokines; THP-1; HeLa cells;

    Abstract : Vaginal commensal bacteria Interactions with cervix epithelial and monocytic cells and influence on cytokines and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor, SLPI Louise Strömbeck Department of Infectious Medicine, Gothenburg University Abstract Lactobacillus is the predominant species of the vaginal microbiota in women of childbearing age. Lactobacilli are thought to contribute to the local immune defence by producing a variety of antimicrobial substances and, thereby, attenuate growth of other opportunistic bacteria. READ MORE
