  1. 16. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Author : Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 17. Mechanisms of survival and maintenance of Hematopoietic Stem Cells and Multipotent Progenitor Cells

    Author : Richard Karlsson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; hypoxia.; forkhead; Akt PKB; Bcl-2; apoptosis; Flt3; FL; c-kit; KL; cytokines; Hematopoiesis; progenitor;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells and progenitor cells are maintained in the bone marrow microenvironment, where factors including soluble and membrane-bound cytokines influence the processes of self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation. Two nonreduntant cytokines with effects on hematopoiesis, Kit Ligand (KL) and Flt3 Ligand (FL), signal via related tyrosine kinase receptors, c-kit and Flt3. READ MORE

  3. 18. Cytokine regulation of pancreatic -cell function with special reference to the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes

    Author : Johnny Sternesjö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic islets; insulin secretion; cytokines; nitric oxide; streptozotocin; NOD mice; proteasome; nuclear factor-kappaB; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Cytokines produced by inflammatory cells have been implicated in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. The overall aim of the present work was to test how different cytokines, supposed to be present in the insulitic lesion, could influence the function of islets of Langerhans. READ MORE

  4. 19. T cell Function in Patients with Dilated Cardiomyopathy

    Author : Erika Lindberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cardiomyopathy; lymphocytes; cytokines; autoimmunity; infection;

    Abstract : Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart muscle disease characterized by dilatation of one or both ventricles together with decreased systolic function. Its etiology is still largely unknown. READ MORE

    Author : Jenny Fäldt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human neutrophils; mycobacteria; oxygen radicals; cytokines; mycobacterial glycolipids; priming;

    Abstract : The genus Mycobacterium includes free-living saprophytes, opportunists, and human pathogens.Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the organism causing tuberculosis, as well as other pathogenicmycobacteria can survive and multiply inside phagocytic cells, but the underlying mechanisms areonly partly understood.
