  1. 1. Cellular Immune Responses to Cytomegalovirus

    Author : Anna Karin Lidehäll; Olle Korsgren; Thomas Tötterman; Ineke ten Berge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytomegalovirus; cellular immunology; infection; immune responses; congenital infection; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; immunosuppressed; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a widespread infection affecting 50-90% of the human population. A typical silent primary infection is followed by life-long persistence in the host under control by virus-specific CD8 (“killer”) and CD4 (“helper”) T cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cytomegalovirus Infection in Immunocompetent and Renal Transplant Patients : Clinical Aspects and T-cell Specific Immunity

    Author : Fredrik Sund; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Olle Korsgren; Halvor Rollag; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytomegalovirus; renal transplantation; cellular immunity; valacyclovir; mismatched; prophylaxis; tetramer; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a β-herpesvirus that, after primary infection, establishes a life-long persistence in the human host. Up to 90% of humans are infected with CMV, that is kept under control by CMV-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. In patients with an impaired cellular immunity, however, CMV infections can be life-threatening. READ MORE

  3. 3. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells

    Author : Björn Carlsson; Magnus Essand; Thomas Tötterman; Malcolm Brenner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunotherapy; Adoptive T cell therapy; Dendritic cell; T cell; Tetramer; Cytomegalovirus; Transplantation; pp65; Prostate cancer; TARP; Prostate antigens; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Abstract : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cytomegalovirus Infection in Heart and Lung Transplant Patients with focus on long-term outcome

    Author : Inger Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart transplantation; lung transplantation; cytomegalovirus; cardiac allograft vasculopathy; ganciclovir; valganciclovir; bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome;

    Abstract : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a common opportunistic infection after heart and lung transplantation. The aims of this thesis were to relate the incidence and severity of CMV infection and disease to different forms of antiviral prevention and to evaluate whether CMV is a risk factor for bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) after lung transplantation and coronary artery vasculopathy (CAV) after heart transplantation. 5. 5. Sexually transmitted infections: serological, microbiological and microscopical aspects

    Author : Matilda Berntsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; herpes simplex virus; seroprevalence; Epstein-Barr virus; cytomegalovirus; urethritis; cervicitis; STI;

    Abstract : The prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) is high in the adult populations world-wide but varies between populations and time periods. Since a high proportion of infected individuals are asymptomatic, diagnostic approaches to reduce further transmission and complications are essential. READ MORE
