  1. 1. Cell signaling by Rho and Miro GTPases : Studies of Rho GTPases in Cytoskeletal Reorganizations and of Miro GTPases in Mitochondrial Dynamics

    Author : Åsa Fransson; Pontus Aspenström; Harry Mellor; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ras superfamily; Rho GTPases; cytoskeleton; Miro GTPases; mitochondrial dynamics; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The Ras superfamily of GTPases embraces six major branches of proteins: the Ras, Rab, Ran, Arf, Rho and Miro subfamilies. The majority of GTPases function as binary switches that cycle between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. This thesis will focus primarily on the biological functions of the Rho and Miro proteins. READ MORE

  2. 2. The functional organization of nuclear envelope proteins

    Author : Santhosh Kumar Gudise; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In eukaryotic cells, the nucleus is enclosed by a double lipid membrane, termed the nuclear envelope (NE). The NE consists of the outer nuclear membrane (ONM), the inner nuclear membrane (INM), the nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) and the nuclear lamina. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of New Players in Planar Polarity Establishment in Arabidopsis

    Author : Stefano Pietra; Markus Grebe; Niko Geldner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SABRE; planar polarity; CLASP; cell division orientation; microtubule cytoskeleton; actin; AIP1; patterning; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Coordinated polarity and differentiation of cells in the plane of a tissue layer are essential to the development of multicellular organisms. Arabidopsis thaliana root hairs and trichomes provide model systems to study the pathways that control planar polarity and cell fate specification in plants. READ MORE

  4. 4. Coiled coil cytoskeleton in cell architecture and osmotic stress response in Streptomyces

    Author : Katsuya Fuchino; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coiled coil protein; Streptomyces coelicolor; polar growth; osmotic-stress response; turgor;

    Abstract : Coiled coil proteins emerge as important determinants of bacterial cellular organization. Several such proteins display properties characteristic to metazoan intermediate filament (IF) proteins, and are therefore designated bacterial IF-like proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. The functional organization of nuclear membrane proteins and development of new technology for studies of cell signaling

    Author : Ricardo A. Figueroa; Einar Hallberg; Yosef Gruenbaum; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The eukaryotic cell is defined by the nucleus, which is delimited by a double membrane structure termed the nuclear envelope (NE). The NE is implicated in a multitude of different processes, for example chromatin organization. READ MORE
