  1. 1. Mechanisms involved in amyloid induced cytotoxicity

    University dissertation from Umeå : Molekylärbiologi

    Author : Johan Östman; Lars Lannfelt; [2005]
    Keywords : amyloid; transthyretin; cytotoxicity; apoptosis; caspases; aggregation; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Amyloidoses comprise a group of diseases where normal or mutated protein precipitates into amyloid fibrils. The deposition of fibrils causes dysfunction of organs and toxicity to nervous tissue. Up to date, 24 different proteins and peptides are known to be able to form amyloid fibrils. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structural studies of heterogeneous amyloid species of lysozymes and de novo protein albebetin and their cytotoxicity

    University dissertation from Umeå : Medicinsk kemi och biofysik

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amyloid; cytotoxicity; atomic force microscopy; TECHNOLOGY Engineering physics Biophysics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk fysik Biofysik;

    Abstract : A number of diseases are linked to protein folding problems which lead to the deposition of insoluble protein plaques in the brain or other organs. These diseases include prion diseases such as Creutzfeld-Jakob disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Selenium cytotoxicity in cancer

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Laboratory Medicine

    Author : Marita Wallenberg; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2013]

    Abstract : The development of resistance by tumour cells to chemotherapeutic agents is a major problem in cancer treatments. One way to counter this is to find compounds with cytotoxic mechanisms other than those of drugs in clinical use today. READ MORE

  5. 5. Antiparasitic metabolites from plants used in the Tacana Bolivian native tribe : Traditional medicine, an overview of natural products with medicinal interest

    University dissertation from Centre for Analysis and Synthesis, Department of Chemistry, Lund University

    Author : Ivan Limachi; [2019-12-05]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tacana Traditional Medicine; Antiparasitic; cytotoxicity; Hyptis brevipes; hyptis mutabilis; Tessaria integrifolia; Trichilia adolfi;

    Abstract : The thesis aims to contribute to the preservation of traditional medicinal knowledge of the Tacana Bolivian native tribe, as well as to the isolation and characterization of antiparasitic metabolites from plants used for the treatment of endemic diseases. A selection of medicinal plants, made in collaboration with the Tacana communities who decided which plants have a specific medicinal propose, were collected and identified by the national herbarium of Bolivia, and confirmed by healers from the most representative communities.
