  1. 6. Antiparasitic metabolites from plants used in the Tacana Bolivian native tribe : Traditional medicine, an overview of natural products with medicinal interest

    Author : Ivan Limachi; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tacana Traditional Medicine; Antiparasitic; cytotoxicity; Hyptis brevipes; hyptis mutabilis; Tessaria integrifolia; Trichilia adolfi;

    Abstract : The thesis aims to contribute to the preservation of traditional medicinal knowledge of the Tacana Bolivian native tribe, as well as to the isolation and characterization of antiparasitic metabolites from plants used for the treatment of endemic diseases. A selection of medicinal plants, made in collaboration with the Tacana communities who decided which plants have a specific medicinal propose, were collected and identified by the national herbarium of Bolivia, and confirmed by healers from the most representative communities. 2. 7. Functional studies of calcein acetoxymethyl ester in human tumor cells

    Author : Gunnar Liminga; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Calcein AM; Calcein; Functional assay; Drug resistance; Cytotoxicity; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : A fluorometric assay for functional measurement of P-glycoprotein 170 (Pgp) mediated transport in cell lines, using the acetoxymethyl ester of calcein (calcein/AM) as a probe was established. The myeloma cell line RPMI 8226/S and the two Pgp-expressing doxorubicin resistant subcell lines 8226/dox6 (low) and 8226/dox40 (high) were used. READ MORE

  3. 8. Mesoporous magnesium carbonate : Synthesis, characterization and biocompatibility

    Author : Sara Frykstrand Ångström; Maria Strømme; Johan Gómez de la Torre; Natalia Ferraz; Mika Lindén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mesoporous; magnesium carbonate; pore size control; cytotoxicity; in vivo; skin irritation; acute systemic toxicity; hemocompatibility; Ca2 uptake; solubility enhancement; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material;

    Abstract : Mesoporous materials constitute a promising class of nanomaterials for a number of applications due to their tunable pore structure. The synthesis of most mesoporous materials involves a surfactant liquid crystal structure to form the pores. READ MORE

  4. 9. Connecting sialic acid expression to cancer cell characteristics : Novel tools for detection, imaging, and analysis

    Author : Louise Sternbæk; Anette Gjörloff Wingren; Kersti Alm; Birgit Janicke; Håkan Eriksson; Magnus Abrahamson; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecularly imprinted polymers; digital holographic cytometry; cancer; cytotoxicity; inflammation; sialic acid; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Abstract : Sialic acid (SA) plays a crucial role in many biological processes. Cell surface SA expression is usually analyzed with antibodies or lectins; however, they are costly and with poor stability. READ MORE

  5. 10. Nanoparticles for multifunctional drug delivery systems

    Author : Jian Qin; Mamoun Muhammed; Paavo K J Kinnunen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; drug delivery; stimuli-sensitive; SPION; PLLA; PNIPAAm; gold; MRI; cytotoxicity; Pluronic; phase transfer; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : Multifunctional drug delivery systems incorporated with stimuli-sensitive drug release, magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic resonance (MR) T2 contrast agents is attracting increasing attention recently. In this thesis, works on polymer nanospheres response to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION)/polymeric composite materials for MR imaging contrast agents are summarized.
